Everton have turned down a formal transfer request from defender Joleon Lescott.

The centre-back has been targeted by Manchester City this summer, with the big-spending Eastlands outfit seeing two bids rejected.

Toffees boss David Moyes has always made it clear that he is determined to retain the services of the England international.

And despite Lescott now revealing he wants to leave Goodison Park, the Scot is refusing to be swayed from his stance.

Moyes told his club's official website: "I have always said that we are not selling any players and that hasn't changed."

Anelka reveals Vieira bust-up

In his stunning autobiography, due for publication later this month, Chelsea's former Arsenal hitman Nicolas Anelka has revealed details of an extraordinary bust up with Patrick Vieira while the pair were with the Gunners.

Astutely timed as to coincide with the start of the new season, Anelka's story is set to be serialised in the Guardian in the coming weeks, but passages from the book have already leaked.

One of the main targets of Anelka's wrath is former Arsenal captain and current Inter midfield general Patrick Vieira. Last season's Premier League top scorer claims sensationally that Vieira's bullying and dressing room humiliation were what forced him out of the North London club, where he was enjoying a successful spell.

Following a league game against Fulham in which Anelka missed an open goal he had an altercation with Vieira in the dressing room afterwards, and this prompted his exit.

The Inter man was known at the club as 'Le Long' due to the size of his manhood. Anelka discovered this first hand, and describes the post-game hiatus following the Fulham fixture.

"Vieira gave me a glare and I knew I was in trouble, afterwards in the showers he tore into me and I just snapped, I knew I shouldn’t have, but I called him a ‘lanky limbed boombaclart.’

At first he just stared at me with his hollow eyes. Then…..WHAM!Just like that he slapped me across the face with his penis.

Just once. But it knocked me back a few steps. It was like being struck by a wet kipper. No one could believe what they saw!

Bendtner explains switch of squad number

Arsenal centre forward Nicklas Bendtner has changed his squad number for the new season.

The Dane caught up with Arsenal.com to explain why he decided on the switch and give a personal offer to fans who had bought his shirt through Club outlets this summer.

“The new season’s almost here, and along with the rest of the players I’m really excited and believe it can be a really special one for everyone associated with the Club." said Bendtner.

"Before it starts I wanted to change my squad number from 26 which I’ve obviously had for a number of seasons now. I chose to move to 52 because it’s a special number to me personally, and I hope that it brings me good luck for the new season.

"I appreciate that a good number of fans have bought their kits for 2009/10 already with names and numbers printed up so I’d like to personally cover the cost of replacing anyone’s shirt that has my previous number. It means a lot to see supporters wearing your name and number, and I want to ensure people aren’t inconvenienced by the change."

* The offer is valid for supporters that purchased the Arsenal home, away or third shirt from a Club shop or online via Arsenal Home Shopping since June 2009. Any supporter wanting to upgrade their shirt that features Nicklas’ previous squad number must show proof of purchase in store.

Aliaksandr Hleb has expressed his regret at his decision to leave Arsenal after he failed to impose himself on the first-team at Spanish giants Barcelona.

Hleb joined the Gunners from German outfit Stuttgart in 2005 and became a mainstay in the north London club's starting XI.

The Belarusian struggled at the Camp Nou, where he signing in 2008, and has now returned to Stuttgart on a season-long loan deal. However, he has admitted that leaving England was a move he looks back on with remorse.

"Of course I regret leaving Arsenal," Hleb told ESPN.

"I was playing every week for one of the most exciting sides in Europe, a team that was always in the top-four in the Premier League and were Champions League contenders.

"Also, I was being guided by one of the best coaches in the world in Arsene Wenger. I owe him a great deal.

"I developed a better all-round game under him and I became more robust physically, learnt to look up more and play better passes and generally improved greatly as a team player. No player ever gets worse under Wenger.

"For me, leaving Arsenal was not a good move."

Hleb went on to explain his reasons for having to leave Barca, citing a lack of first-team opportunities as the main cause of his departure for Germany.

"Barca were my dream club as a kid, but I couldn't continue with them if the chance to play was not coming," he lamented.

"I'm 28 and who knows how much time I've left in the game. I needed to move on, and the chance to go back to a place that I feel happy in was the best solution."
