Aaron Lennon returns to training for Tottenham
April 7, 2010
Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon has returned to training after two months out injured with a niggling groin problem.
Lennon, who was in flying form before he suffered the injury against West Ham in December, took part in Tuesday's Open Training Event at White Hart Lane and manager Harry Redknapp says he is delighted to see him back.
"Today is the first day Aaron has joined in a training session, it's his first morning back," Redknapp said. "It was great to see him out training but we've got to take our time, it's important he doesn't break down and have another setback.
"We'll see how he goes this week, the physios will monitor his progress and they will let us know when he's ready to come back and start playing again. He's getting closer and that's good news."
Redknapp has also claimed he is confident that Lennon will recover fully in time for England's World Cup campaign.
"Aaron has been working on his fitness and should be OK for the World Cup," Redknapp said. "If Fabio Capello rings and asks me about Aaron, I'll say he should be in good shape for the summer.
"That is great news for England, especially after the loss of David Beckham. Aaron can become a major player for England in the World Cup finals. But before that we need him for our run-in.'' |
