Scholes signs new Old Trafford deal
Veteran Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2011.
Scholes, 35, has spent his entire career with the Red Devils, having graduated from the youth academy to make his first team debut in September 1994, and now looks certain to end his playing days with United.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson thinks his squad can still benefit from the vast experience of the former England international and told United's official website: "We are delighted Paul is staying on for another year.
"His form this year indicates his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever, that's every reason to stay on.
"There was talk about him wanting to retire, but when you see his enjoyment in training and playing you can see how much he wants to carry on."
Scholes is now determined to land a 10th Premier League title, knowing he will have another chance even if this season ends in failure.
"I am pleased to have signed for another year. I am feeling good and enjoying my football,'' said Scholes. "I would like to thank the boss, the coaching staff and also the fans for their continued support.'' |
