Genoa-Milan behind closed doors

In a last-minute decision, Sunday’s Genoa-Milan match will be played behind closed doors due to security fears.
The fixture was considered very high risk, as these two clubs have a bitter rivalry stretching back to a tragic incident.
Ever since Genoa supporter Vincenzo Spagnolo was stabbed to death outside San Siro 15 years ago, the Rossoneri fans have been barred from travelling to Marassi.
That ban was lifted this season, but increasing tension around the game and talk of reprisals from the Genoa ultras prompted a rethink.
Late Saturday evening the local security chiefs ordered the match to be played behind closed doors.
Kick-off is on Sunday at 15.00 local time, 14.00 in the UK. |
