Ghana could be without seven members of their first-team squad as they take on Uruguay for a place in the semi-finals.
Ghana, who were already without star man Michael Essien for the finals, have lost Udinese defender Jonathan Mensah and Marseille winger Andre Ayew to suspension for Friday's quarter-final and five players face last-minute fitness tests.
Striker Asamoah Gyan, who has scored all but one of the team's goals to date in the tournament, is expected to recover from an ankle problem, but Kevin-Prince Boateng, captain John Mensah and defenders Hans Sarpei and Samuel Inkoom are all concerns for boss Milovan Rajevac.
"After the second-round match against USA, it was a problem as to who would be going to play against Uruguay," Rajevac said. "We cannot count on Andre Ayew and Jonathan Mensah ... and we also have five injured players. It will be up to our medical team to make them fit and we will see who will play. It all depends on what the medical team decides [on Friday]."
Ghana will at least be able to count on Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari, whose participation this summer has been limited after a disagreement with Rajevac.
"I had a discussion with the coach," Muntari said. "I think I was maybe a little silly. Everything is good now, everything is cool. I am always with the team. I have always given 100% to the team.
"It is going to depend on the coach who plays but I am ready to give my all. On a personal level I want to leave all the negative stuff behind me and we all want to make the whole of Africa proud. We have great dedication and commitment."
He added on Kick Off Ghana: "It is without question the biggest game ever for Ghana. We have a chance to make history and go into a stage no African country has been
before."
