Hiddink: Man City and Liverpool wanted me

Former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink claims he was approached by both Liverpool and Manchester City to take over as manager last summer.

While Liverpool were at that point without a manager due to Rafael Benitez's departure, City had publicly backed Roberto Mancini. City have come out to "strenuously deny" there was any approach for Hiddink, who took over as manager of Turkey in August.

Hiddink, who had a successful short spell with Chelsea in the second half of the 2008-09 season following Luiz Felipe Scolari's exit, insists he has no intention of returning to club management on a full-time basis - which may come as a relief to Roy Hodgson.

Both Hodgson and Mancini now find themselves under pressure with very difference circumstances. Liverpool's resurgence suffered a setback in defeat at Stoke on Saturday, while City fans have not seen a home goal for six weeks as they become disillusioned with his tactics in pursuit of a first Champions League qualification.

Hiddink was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror: "In the summer City and Liverpool both came to me with an inquiry.

"But at my age I don't want to manage a club again for seven days a week over three years."

Vicky Kloss, Man City's chief communications officer, said: "We strenuously deny that we have ever spoken to Guus Hiddink or any other manager about the possibility of succeeding Roberto Mancini."

City have won just one of their last five League games, taking only five points.

Reports in last week's press also claimed Mancini had a training ground row with Emmanuel Adebayor, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge and Joleon Lescott. That was also denied but none of the four were in the matchday squad for the disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Birmingham on Saturday.

Dunne blow for Villa

Aston Villa captain Richard Dunne is the latest player to join the club's lengthy injury list after suffering a reoccurrence of a knee problem.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has been forced to withdraw from Giovanni Trapattoni's squad for Wednesday's clash with Norway, is the tenth senior Villa player to be sidelined.

Dunne's knee flared up during Saturday's 2-2 home draw with Manchester United and Villa boss Gerard Houllier can ill afford anymore injury blows.

Houllier said: "Richard's knee has swollen up and it is a recurring thing. That is why he missed two or three games earlier in the season.

"He is important to us and I like the attitude of all my older players because they are good tutors (for the younger players) in terms of training and attitude towards the job.

"The two centre-backs (Dunne and James Collins) are fantastic people. They encourage and sometimes they give a rollicking."

Villa are already without Stiliyan Petrov, Nigel Reo-Coker, Emile Heskey, Fabian Delph (all knee) John Carew, Carlos Cuellar and Ciaran Clark (all calf), Habib Beye (ankle) and Steve Sidwell (Achilles).

In addition Stephen Ireland missed the United game through illness while Gabriel Agbonlahor withdrew from the England squad to face France after suffering a knock in the same game.

Houllier reiterated that he will look to strengthen the squad during the next transfer window. He said: "We definitely need to sign one or two players in January."

Huddlestone out for three months after surgery

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone is likely to miss the next three months of the season with an ankle injury that has been troubling him for some time.

Huddlestone has been nagged by the problem for some time, and has often needed painkilling injections ahead of matches. After carrying out a scan, Spurs have decided to send him for an operation on his deterioating right ankle.

The midfielder missed the weekend's 4-2 defeat of Blackburn Rovers and his lengthy absence will cause problems for Harry Redknapp as Spurs fight on in the Premier League and face two crucial Champions League matches in order to qualify for the knock-out round.

A lack of midfield numbers means Huddlestone's loss will be keenly felt, and his partnership with Luka Modric will now be broken up as the 23-year-old joins Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate on the sidelines.

A club statement read: "Following consultation with several independent ankle specialists, it has been determined that Tom Huddlestone will undergo surgery on his right ankle. The procedure is likely to rule the England international out of action for around three months."

Robert Pires set to complete move to Aston Villa

Aston Villa are set to sign former Arsenal winger Robert Pires later this week, according to the club's website.

The 37-year-old was released by Spanish club Villarreal in the summer and is available as a free agent.

Pires helped France win the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship as well as winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with Arsenal.

Villa's assistant boss Gary McAllister confirmed: "I believe he's going to join us in the next two to three days."

Pires, who spent six years with the Gunners and was voted their sixth greatest player of all time in an online poll, has been training with his former manager Arsene Wenger at Arsenal's training ground in recent weeks.

拉姆塞在2008年從卡迪夫加盟阿森納，他是一位前途被廣為看好的新星。在今年2月份同斯托克城的比賽中，拉姆塞慘遭斷腿之禍。直到上月中旬，拉姆塞才恢復合練，預計他月底就可以參加正式比賽。日前，拉姆塞在家鄉卡迪夫遇到了麻煩。他和好朋友哈奇森一起前往卡迪夫當地的一家酒吧放松。熟料，他們遇到了一夥卡迪夫極端球迷的挑釁。因為拉姆塞在2008年加盟離開卡迪夫轉投夢阿森納，這夥極端球迷指責拉姆塞是逃兵，是猶大。

這位持刀行兇的卡迪夫極端球迷和拉姆塞同歲！看見哈奇森血流滿面後，他撒腿就跑。好在，他跑了一百多碼就被酒吧保安摔倒在地。隨後，拉姆塞的好友哈奇森被送到醫院，臉部傷口長達5英寸，險些傷及眼睛。哈奇森受傷補位被縫了45針。拉姆塞和哈奇森是對非常要好的朋友，他們從小就在一起玩耍。他的一位朋友透露，拉姆塞對哈奇森受傷感到很難過。持刀行兇的極端球迷在繳納了保釋金後被釋放回家。目前，當地警方還在調查此案。
