Ljungberg eyeing January Premier League return
Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Freddy Ljungberg is ready to quit the MLS club Chicago Fire in a bid to seal a return to the Premier League with Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Newcastle United reportedly interested.
According to the player’s agent Phil Smith Ljungberg has “plenty of offers and plenty of options” and is considering following in the footsteps of former Highbury teammate Robert Pires by looking to seal a return to the Premier League.
The 33-year-old is available on a free transfer and is looking for a bigger contract after only joining Chicago Fire mid-season from the Seattle Sounders. The Swede is now set on leaving Toyota Park and will be available on a free transfer, with reports also suggesting he could re-join Thierry Henry at New York Red Bulls, however the Swede is more likely to look to re-join a club in the Premier League during the January transfer window.
