Arsenal sign Lille striker Gervinho

Arsenal have finally made positive moves in the transfer market by signing Lille forward Gervinho.

It has been a day of doom and gloom for Arsenal fans, who have had to endure reports that Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy could all be on their way out of the Emirates.

However, a silver lining has shown up, according to talkSPORT, who report that the Gunners have managed to fight off strong interest from Liverpool and Newcastle to sign the Ivorian, and the 24-year-old is likely to sign on the dotted line in the next few days.

Manchester United and Liverpool have been hogging the headlines of late with their signings of Phil Jones and Jordan Henderson, but Arsenal feel positive that, with the addition of Gervinho and Charlton defender Carl Jenkinson, Arsene Wenger could well persuade his squad that they can contend for the Premier League this season.

The Frenchman will now turn his attention to Blackburn captain Chris Samba and Bolton defender Gary Cahill as he looks to bolster his defensive line.

The question is, is it too little, too late?

According to reports in the Independent, Both Manchester United and Nasri's representatives have already met up in Manchester on Thursday. Arsenal fans will certainly hope that the signing of Gervinho can change the Frenchman's possible fear that there is no silverware to be gained at the Emirates.

Jerome Boateng keen on Bayern

Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng has outlined his desire to join Bayern Munich this summer.

Boateng joined City from Hamburg on a five-year deal 12 months ago but already has his sights set on a move back to the Bundesliga.

The Germany international, speaking at a promotional event in Hamburg, said: ''I would like to go to Munich. On my side everything is clear.''

Boateng believes he can further his international career at Bayern after expressing his displeasure at being played at right-back at Eastlands.

He added: ''I have already told (City boss) Roberto Mancini that I want to play in central defence and not at full-back. Bayern have indicated I will play in the centre. To play there regularly is important for me because I will have a better chance of playing in the national team.''

Boateng accepts his fate is in City's hands, though.

''It is all about whether I am released. I hope it works,'' he said. ''Bayern are bigger than Manchester City, they are one of the top six teams in Europe. To play for them would be an honour for me.''
