Gelsenkirchen - Chinedu Obasi is set to play the second half of the 2011/12 Bundesliga season for FC Schalke 04. 1899 Hoffenheim's Nigerian striker will initially join the Royal Blues on loan until the end of the season with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has revealed he would prefer to win the Champions League than the Bundesliga this season.

"I would usually say that the German title is the most important thing, but now I have got to say that, when you have the Champions League final in Munich, which is something which comes around only once in a player's career, then you have got to try to make that your aim."

Hoeness feels the ideal surroundings are in place for the German club's first European title since 2001.

"It is not only about being top of the league at the halfway stage of the season and in the Champions League, but also the economic situation," he said. "There is so much peace and quiet at the club, there are no disputes, no arguments and there are no big conflicts.

"We are successful, we want more success and, at the same time, we have no debts."

Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic has announced that he is now set to remain at the club beyond the January window.

Asked if he would be staying put, he told Sportske Novosti: "Yes. They say they are relying on me and that selling me is not an option.

"I had told them I'd wanted to go and had some great offers, but they didn't want to discuss it. They even told me I would be punished if I continued to talk about leaving Bayern Munich."

Olic, who claims to have received offers from "very big clubs" around Europe and particularly in Italy, believes his performance for Croatia in the Euro 2012 play-off with Turkey prevented his departure.

"The game with Turkey in Istanbul was the turning point," he said. "When people from Bayern saw how I played, they immediately put a stop sign on any deal."

Olic is out of contract at the end of the season but he added: "It's been said that the club will sit and talk about an extension in January. I can't say anything more at present because we haven't talked yet, but we will."

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery believes Robert Lewandowski would be a better signing for the club than his Borussia Dortmund team-mate Mario Gotze.

Germany's teenage midfielder Gotze has been linked with a move to the Allianz Arena, despite insisting he is happy at Dortmund, with Bayern president Uli Hoeness recently promising one big-money signing for next season.

Ribery, though, believes striker Robert Lewandowski would be the better option. "For me, Lewandowski is more valuable than Gotze, he is a super player,'' he told Sport Bild magazine.

"Gotze is more of a central player, not for out wide. Lewandowski is a great striker. When I look at Dortmund, then it is Robert Lewandowski who catches my eye.''

While Gotze plays a similar role to Ribery, Lewandowski is an out-and-out striker. The Pole has scored 12 goals for Dortmund this season and fulfils the criteria of the "attacking bomb'' Hoeness has vowed to find.
