Chelsea could swoop for one of Liverpool's prime targets, Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago llori, the Mirror says. The Reds have had two bids for Ilori rejected, with both offers believed to be less than Sporting's £8.5 million valuation. Now Jose Mourinho is expected to make a move for the 20-year-old, with a bid around the £7.5 million mark. While Sporting may be open to reducing their demand for the Blues, Ilori is unlikely to leave Portugal unless he is promised first-team football - something which may give Liverpool an advantage.

The Londoners, who narrowly missed out on Champions league football last season, had hoped to bring Villa to White Hart Lane – but he looks certain to stay in Spain in a deal worth around £4.4 million plus 50% of any future transfer fee. The Star says Tottenham will have to beef up their Soldado offer to have a chance of signing him, explaining: “Spurs have already had a £17 million bid for Soldado rejected, with Valencia holding out for the full £25 million release clause written into his contract.”

Chelsea are taking their pursuit of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to a new level, with the Europa League winners expected to match the England international's £240,000-a-week salary.

According to the Daily Mail, Blues manager Jose Mourinho will try to tempt Rooney to London by offering him a five-year contract worth in the region of £60 million. However, the offer will only be tabled if Rooney can secure a release from the Red Devils - and according to new United boss, David Moyes, former Everton protege Rooney is going nowhere.
