Meanwhile, former Tottenham boss David Pleat told Talksport: "Tottenham have control. They will decide if he goes. I don’t think there’s the panic from the club’s point of view that there seems to be in the media."

Bayern Munich are set to launch a £40 million offer for Chelsea defender David Luiz as Pep Guardiola looks to complete his squad ahead of the new season, The Sun reports.

Guardiola has been a long-time admirer of Luiz, attempting to bring the Brazil international to the Camp Nou during his time in charge of Barcelona. It appears he has Luiz in his sights again, although it is understood new Blues boss Jose Mourinho is reluctant to sell. The player is said to be unsettled by ongoing reports linking him with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain.

The injury suffered by Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic at the weekend could see his fellow defender Joleon Lescott taken off the transfer market, according to the Daily Mirror.

Nastasic is expected to miss the start of the season with the injury, suffered in a pre-season tournament in Hong Kong, leaving Manuel Pellegrini to rely on a central defensive partnership of Lescott and Vincent Kompany. Lescott had been linked with a move away from Eastlands in order to boost his World Cup hopes, but is now tipped to stay until at least the January transfer window.
