HEAT Sign Keyon Dooling
MIAMI, July 22 – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed free agent guard Keyon Dooling. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We absolutely love Keyon’s speed and quickness,” said HEAT Head Coach Stan Van Gundy. “I think he will provide us with great energy. He’s a guy who can score points and has a chance to develop into a very good player.”
Dooling, entering his fifth NBA season, has averaged 6.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 17.2 minutes per game over four years with the Los Angeles Clippers. In 58 games (career-high 24 starts) with the Clippers last season, he averaged 6.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 19.6 minutes per game. He scored in double figures on 15 occasions and handed out double-figure assists once. He set career highs in both points (20) and assists (10) at Detroit on Mar. 31, 2004 while recording his first career double-double. In his 24 starts during the 2003-04 season he averaged 8.1 points, 2.9 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 26.9 minutes.
A 6’3”, 190-pound point guard, Dooling was acquired by the Clippers after his draft rights were traded by the Orlando Magic, who selected him with the 10th pick in the 2000 NBA Draft. He entered the NBA after spending two seasons at Missouri, where he earned Second Team All-Big 12 Conference honors after his sophomore season.
Dooling has strong South Florida ties, as he was born in Fort Lauderdale and attended Dillard High School in the same city.
