Lithuanian captain STOMBERGAS: "We can beat them (USA)"
ATHENS, - The captain of the unbeaten Lithuanian Men's Basketball team, Saulius STOMBERGAS, holds no fears about playing the USA.
"If we play well we hope to beat them," said STOMBERGAS ahead of tomorrow's (Saturday, 21 August) Group B clash at the Helliniko Indoor Arena.
"It's not the first time we will play against NBA players and we have proven to be a tough team. They haven't played very well so far, with a lot of trouble scoring."
STOMBERGAS was clear about his team's goals in Athens.
"We have a good team and we are looking at medals," he said. "Hopefully something better than the bronzes we have won at the last three Olympics."
The Lithuanians were at their irresistible best in beating Greece 98-76 yesterday.
"We went in prepared, because it was a very important game," said STOMBERGAS. "We were good both in defense and offence. That doesn't mean it will always be that way, because we have very difficult opponents, but with consistency we can go a long way."
STOMBERGAS's Olympic Games already hold special memories - he was his country's flagbnearer at the Opening Ceremony.
"It was a great honour for me! I didn't even have the chance to attend the Ceremony last time and it was really beautiful. Everything in Athens is very well organised - the best organisation I have experienced." |
