Wolves re-sign Hudson
Aug. 9, 2004 —Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale today announced the team has re-signed free agent guard Troy Hudson. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Hudson, a 6-1, 175-pound guard from Southern Illinois University, appeared in 29 games for the Timberwolves last season, averaging 7.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 17.3 minutes. He poured in a season-high 29 points in a season-best 38 minutes on Feb. 25 vs. New Jersey, his lone start in 2003-04. Hudson tallied 19 points (in 20 minutes) on March 12 vs. the Los Angeles Lakers, going 4-for-6 from three-point range. He netted 22 points with a season-high seven assists on March 3 vs. Dallas.
"We are excited to have a player with Troy's abilities back with us next season," said McHale. "He is a skilled offensive player, and he gives us greater backcourt depth."
The seven-year veteran ended his second season with the Wolves on the Injured List, missing the final seven games after suffering a sprained left ankle on March 29 at Houston. It was his second stint on the IL in 2003-04, having missed the first 25 games (and 52 overall) after sustaining a sprained right ankle in the Oct. 23 preseason contest vs. Indiana. He underwent successful surgery on the right ankle in late April.
"I'm looking forward to doing my part in helping this team get to the next level," said Hudson. "I'm excited to know that I will be playing in Minnesota for years to come."
In 359 NBA games over seven seasons with Utah, the Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando and Minnesota, Hudson has averaged 9.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 22.6 minutes per game. He was not drafted as an early entry candidate for the 1997 NBA Draft. Hudson played in the Continental Basketball Association with Yakima and Sioux Falls. He signed as a free agent with Minnesota on Jan. 22, 1999, before being waived by the Wolves on Feb. 3, 1999. Additionally, he signed a multi-year contract with the Wolves on Aug. 26, 2002 prior to signing his current deal.
