Manchester United have agreed a fee of ?2.5m with Tottenham Hotspur for
left-back Erik Edman, who signed for Spurs less than 12 months ago for
an undisclosed fee from SC Heerenveen. The Swedish international has had
a solid season at Spurs and is expected to provide United with the
flexibility to switch Gabriel Heinze to centre-half in place of the
disappointing Mikael Silvestre.

The signing follows the acquisition of goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Saar
from Fulham for a fee believed to be in the region of ?2m and further
acquisitions at Old Trafford are expected to follow as Sir Alex Ferguson
looks to strengthen his squad after a trophyless season.

The news has heightened speculation of divisions at Tottenham in the
wake of Sporting Director Frank Arnesen's suspension following an
approach by Chelsea. Edman was signed by Arnesen and was a regular under
Jaques Santini but, following an ankle injury, his appearances under
head coach Martin Jol became sporadic with Timothee Atouba and Reto
Ziegler both preferred to the Swede at left-back following the purchase
of left-winger Andy Reid.

27-year-old Edman is expected to sign a three year deal at Old Trafford
worth in the region of ?18,000 per week.

Fulham complete deal for Drobny  

Fulham have completed the signing of Czech Republic goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny from Greek side Panionios as a replacement for Edwin van der Sar.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper is the understudy to Chelsea keeper Petr Cech for his international side.

Drobny, who initially signed a pre-contract agreement in January, is expected to become Fulham's new first-choice keeper.

He will compete with Mark Crossley for the number one shirt at Craven Cottage.

Fulham's goalkeeping coach Dave Beasant says he will be working hard to get Drobny bedded in ahead of next season.

He told BBC Sport: "Because we were concerned about losing Ed in the last transfer window we took the steps to make sure we weren't left short here.

"Now Jaroslav will be coming in and joining us for pre-season.

"Obviously it would have been great to have him in and work with him for three or four months while Ed was still here because Ed is a great person to watch and learn from as well.

"It would have been ideal to have him working with Ed and Mark Crossley, but that's not going to be the situation.

"And now he is going to come in we just have to make sure we get him prepared and as ready as we can for the British style of football sooner rather than later."

Fulham have confirmed the arrival of Australian Ahmad Elrich.

Skysports.com exclusively revealed Elrich's arrival, after he agreed terms with The Cottagers.

"I am delighted to welcome Ahmad to Fulham," said boss Chris Coleman.

"He trained with us for a week in May and he showed great commitment, enthusiasm and ability - with a blistering pace to rival that of even the fastest players in our squad.

"I have no doubt that he will be an asset to us next season and I am looking forward to working with a highly motivated squad of players that are fully dedicated to the new campaign."

Elrich himself - who came on as a late substitute for Australia in their 1-0 win over New Zealand - admitted he was delighted to have sealed the move.

"It has always been my dream to play for my country and to play in the Premiership so I'm absolutely thrilled," he said.

"I spent a week at Fulham during May and they are a great bunch of guys, they really enjoy themselves during training and everyone gets along - that's important. The coaching staff were brilliant, they really make you work hard but I enjoyed it."

Everton are believed to be lining up a swoop for Argentine defender Diego Placente.

The Toffees have targeted the Bayer Leverkusen ace as a possible signing for next season.

Goodison Park boss David Moyes is determined to bolster his squad as he looks to build on their fine campaign last season.

Moyes has made defensive reinforcements his top priority with the futures of Alessandro Pistone, Alan Stubbs and Steve Watson all remaining uncertain.

Everton have been alerted to Placente's availability as he could leave on a Bosman when his contract with Leverkusen expires next month.

Leverkusen are keen to keep hold of him, but have warned him he would have to take a pay cut to stay after they failed to make the Champions League.

Placente is now weighing up his options with a number of clubs looking to lure him away from The BayArena.

Roma are keen on signing him, but Everton are hoping to beat the Italians to his signature by offering him the prospect of playing in the Champions League.

The player's agent Vincenzo Morabito admitted Roma are chasing Placente's signature, but hinted Everton could win the race for his signature.

"Now there is some interest from Roma," Morabito told Gazetta Dello Sport.

"In order to travel to Rome we must at least reach a principle agreement.

"Diego appreciates the interest of Roma, but if an offer from Everton arrived we could not ignore it.

"With all respect for Roma Everton will play in the Champions League next season."
