尼史, 奧斯文續約拖肥

Everton had double reason to celebrate as both Gary Naysmith and Leon Osman agreed new deals with the Goodison Park club.
Young midfielder Osman agreed a four-year contract that will keep him with the Champions League hopefuls until 2009 with his previous deal on the brink of expiring at the end of this month, while Naysmith signed for a further three years.

Osman came through the academy at Goodison and, despite having been linked with a move away from the Blues, the 24-year-old insisted he had never wanted to leave but instead was looking to build on the form he showed last season.

He said: 'I never wanted to leave Everton. I had a great season and just want to try and carry that form forward into what is going to be a huge year for the club.

'There were other offers on the table, but it would have to be a pretty special club coming in for me that would make me give up what I have got here.'

After graduating from the Blues academy, Osman spent time on loan at Carlisle before making his first-team debut against Spurs at White Hart Lane in January 2003.

The following season saw him on a four-month loan at Derby but it was the 2004/05 campaign that saw him break through to become a regular in the first team.

Osman started the first game against Arsenal before going on to make 35 appearances in all competitions, while scoring seven goals, to become part of the team that finished fourth in the Premiership and he admitted he was relishing the prospect of playing in the Champions League.

Osman said: 'There is a great team spirit now and with some big signings to come, hopefully, our fans will be expecting a lot from us.

'Personally, and I think it is the same for a lot of the lads here, I cannot wait for the Champions League games.

'You watch them on TV and see the players and teams involved and we are now two games away from joining them,' he said.

'It is a very exciting time to be an Everton player.'

Naysmith had started the ball rolling by agreeing a deal that will keep him at Goodison Park until 2008.

The 26-year-old defender, who joined the club in 2000 for £1.5million from Hearts, revealed he was relieved to have finally concluded the negotiations.

He told the club's website: 'I'm delighted to be finally signing because it's been a long time coming.

'The negotiations began last summer but for one reason or another things never got done. It all got left until the end of the season and if I'm being completely truthful, 50% of me thought that I would have to leave.

'But the negotiations went well and thankfully everything has now been sorted.'

He added: 'I've said all along that I wanted to stay at the club.

'I've really enjoyed my four and a half years here and this is my club. It's the longest spell I've ever had at a club as a first-team player.

'I'm settled in the area, so are my wife and children, so I didn't want to move away. I'm delighted that it's come to the conclusion that I always wanted.'

Jon Stead has completed his proposed move from Blackburn Rovers to Sunderland.

The England Under-21 international almost joined The Black Cats when leaving Huddersfield Town but opted instead for a Premiership switch by heading for Ewood Park.

After a fabulous first campaign with Rovers, he struggled last term and only netted two goals, although one of them was a valuable winner at Everton.

Charlton Athletic were also keen to recruit the striker but Stead decided a move to Wearside would most benefit his career at this stage.

A £1.8 million deal was struck with Blackburn and the 22-year-old has penned a four-year contract with his new club.

Middlesbrough move for Pogatetz

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren is close to signing Bayer Leverkusen full-back Emanuel Pogatetz.

McClaren is reported to have agreed a 2m deal for the 22-year-old, although he still needs to agree personal terms and pass a medical.

Pogatetz spent much of last season on loan at Graz AK in Austria and is currently at Spartak Moscow in Russia.

McClaren is keen to recruit Pogatetz as cover for French full-back Franck Queudrue in defence.

He spent much of the last campaign attempting to plug gaps left by a series of injuries, and was indebted to the likes of veteran Colin Cooper and youngsters Tony McMahon, James Morrison and Danny Graham.

Pogatetz would become the club's second signing of the summer, with Nigerian striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu due to complete his £7.5m switch from Portsmouth 1 July..

BLACK CATS BAG DAVIS

Sunderland have signed Ipswich keeper Kelvin Davis for £1.25 million.

The 28-year-old's capture is Mick McCarthy's second in the space of 24 hours following the arrival of striker Jon Stead.

Davis was due to return to England from holiday on Monday, but a plane problem delayed the shot-stopper putting pen-to-paper.

Manchester City are lining up a 1m bid for Everton striker Marcus Bent, according to reports.

City boss Stuart Pearce is said to have targeted the 27-year-old to bolster his attacking options.

After selling Jonathan Macken to Crystal Palace, City have only Robbie Fowler as a senior striker.

Out-of-favour Bent is likely to fall even further down the Goodison Park pecking order if Toffees boss David Moyes lands his summer targets.

Everton are reportedly eyeing Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy and Swedish striker Johan Elmander who plays for Danish club Brondby.

City boss Pearce will have noted that despite being apparently surplus to requirements at Goodison Park, Bent made 37 Premiership appearances last season, including six as substitute, and scored six Premiership goals to prove his ability to play in the top flight.

The much-travelled Bent began at Brentford as a trainee and his journey has taken him to Crystal Palace, Port Vale and Sheffield United before a £2.1m move to Blackburn.

From there, Bent moved to Ipswich in a £3m deal and had a loan spell at Leicester before joining Everton last June for £450,000.

Tottenham clinch Lennon signing

Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Leeds' Aaron Lennon, subject to him passing a medical and agreeing terms.

Locally-born Lennon made 27 appearances for Leeds in the Championship last season, starting 19 games, and was named Leeds' young player of the year.

Lennon, 18, already has a link with White Hart Lane, having made his first Leeds appearance there in August 2003.

Aged just 16 years and 129 days, he became the youngest Premiership player ever when he came on as a substitute.
