i have the same problem with Ashley Cole ar

i uninstalled FM2005, then install it and update it to 5.0.5
then started a new game and use Real Madrid
and the chairman help me to buy Totti and Valeron

but in HKCM http://www.hkcm.com/download/fm2005files/v5-0-5fixed.txt
it said: "Stopped interfering buying chairman from making the club bankrupt"

i really don't understand that

I think it doesn't related to whether 5.05 are being used. If the BoD asked you to sign a star, you shall obey their instruction until they said satisfing your signing (They will send a message to you or you can see their satisfaction in "Confidence"). I am using Middlesbourgh. My BoD has requisted me to do and I did it. Therefore, I didn't have this problem. I think the best way to prevent the BoD from signing super stars on behalf you. You had better to sign the cheapest, useful to your squad and famous star to fulfill the Board requirement as you are a FM.

On the other hand, after your BoD signed 2 super stars, your team still have $22M. Not too bad. The BoD must sign some stars in according to their favourite provided that they haven't any further planning on stadium expansion. Furthermore, for the Financial Director, he will find the shirt sale income increased after some big signing and potentially increase their sponsorship, TV revenue and rewards from Major competition. In your case, it is not strange. In the reality, it does happen.
