Arsenal midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg could miss Sweden's three Group B games at the World Cup because of a foot injury, according to national team doctor Anders Valentin.

The Gunners star is definitely out of Thursday's friendly international against Finland and the June 2 clash with Chile but Valentin has advised the midfielder to also miss the games in Germany against Trinidad & Tobago, Paraguay and England.

"He would need to rest for four weeks to completely recover," Valentin told Swedish public television SVT.

"He might not be completely without symptoms (at the finals)."

Coach Lars Lagerback has also opted to rest Barcelona striker Henrik Larsson for the warm-up friendly against Finland. Central midfielder Teddy Lucic is also likely to miss the game with a groin injury.

Lovenkrands agrees German switch

Peter Lovenkrands has rejected the opportunity to stay with Rangers and will move to German club Schalke 04.
The 26-year-old Danish forward, who moved to Ibrox six years ago for £1.3m from AB Copenhagen, leaves Glasgow under freedom of contract.

"Peter is left-footed, lightning quick and has an eye for goal. He will increase our options going forward," said Schalke manager Andreas Muller.

"Schalke is a big club where I want to win titles," added Lovenkrands.

The Dane, capped 14 times, has signed a three-year deal to keep him in Germany until June 2009.

"I spoke with Soren Larsen and Christian Poulsen (fellow Danes) about Schalke and what they told me helped me make the decision," added Lovenkrands.

The player, who can play wide or through the middle, bagged 18 goals this season - with four of those coming in Rangers' Champions' League run.

Spanish clubs Osasuna and Villarreal had also approached Lovenkrands.

Substitute Rolando Bianchi's added-time goal earned Italy a dramatic late point from a thrilling 3-3 draw against Denmark in Aveiro.

Italy revival
The holders were on their way to defeat when Bianchi fired past Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard to complete a terrific comeback after falling 3-1 down. Alessandro Potenza had given the Azzurrini an early lead, but goals from Rasmus Würtz, Thomas Kahlenberg and Leon Andreasen looked to have given Denmark the points until Raffaele Palladino and Bianchi struck back.

Italy ahead
Italy worked the first clear opening in the eighth minute when Paolo Sammarco's low shot was well held by Ellegaard. They had been finding their range and they struck with 15 minutes played. Pasquale Foggia crossed from the right to Potenza who tapped in at the far post. The holders might have had another four minutes later, Palladino curling a shot wide after being sent clear.

Denmark level
Having survived that scare, Denmark took command. Gianluca Curci, preferred in goal to Federico Agliardi, had not had a save to make before, on 21 minutes, the ball fell to Würtz who drilled a low shot through a crowd of bodies and in. Italy had failed to clear Daniel Agger's corner and paid the penalty.

Kahlenberg scores
The height of 18-year-old Niklas Bendtner, clearly relishing this chance just one week after making his debut at this level, was causing Italy problems, but Denmark were not restricted to the aerial game. Pushing forward from midfield, Martin Bergvold’s shot was well parried by Curci before Denmark struck again on 32 minutes. Curci came to punch clear a cross but only got the ball as far as Würtz who shot at the unguarded net. Giorgio Chiellini blocked but the ball fell to Kahlenberg who rolled it in.

Andreasen strike
Denmark were now in complete control and twice in quick succession Kahlenberg then Bergvold shot narrowly wide. The neutrals in Alveiro had been won over by Denmark’s enterprising play and they had more to cheer five minutes before the break when Andreasen fired in a free-kick to leave Flemming Serritslev’s side deservedly, if somewhat surprisingly, 3-1 up at the break.

Late goal
Italy coach Claudio Gentile brought on Alessandro Rosina on 55 minutes and the substitute almost scored with his first touch, rifling a shot off the post as Italy stepped up the pressure. They made it count on 61 minutes when Palladino headed in Cesare Bovo's free-kick, swinging the momentum back Italy's way. Kahlenberg, however, should have added a fourth for Denmark when clean through seven minutes from time, and Bianchi made him pay. Italy next play Ukraine on Friday while Denmark take on the Netherlands.

Flere har etterlyst det offensive spillet til Norge, og i kveld fikk publikum se et norsk lag som spilte seg frem til mange sjanser. Derfor var også Åge Hareide en fornøyd trener, til tross for at det ble uavgjort. 11-3 i målsjanser sier sitt om kampbildet.

- Jeg synes vi fortjente å vinne, spillerne fortjente å vinne. Vi har to sjanser som vi bør score mål på, og derfor vinner vi ikke. Men dette er en positiv opplevelse å bygge videre på inn mot neste kamp, innledet landslagstrener Åge Hareide pressekonferansen.

Roste Johnsen

Uten å vise tegn til bitterhet over resultatet. Til det var det offensive spillet i kveld for godt. Han fremhevet særlig Frode Johnsen, Fredrik Strømstad og Martin Andresen, og tomålsscorer Frode Johnsen fikk denne attesten:

- Frode er flink til å time løpene inne i boksen, og han er sterk i lufta på dødball. Frode scorer mye mål, sa Hareide som også skrøt av Morten Gamst Pedersens presise innleggsfot på begge målene.

- Ikke noe hokus pokus

Statistikken til RBK-spissen viser nå 10 mål på 31 landskamper. Det er ikke noe å kimse av. Hovedpersonen selv var usedvanlig nøktern med tanke på to scorede mål etter en lengre periode utenfor landslaget.

- To glimrende innlegg fra Gamsten, begge to på huet, det er ikke noe hokus pokus, sier Frode Johnsen til fotball.no.

Og legger til:

- Det er selvfølgelig veldig gøy å få være med, og så lenge laget fungerer, så er det enkelt å være god, sier Johnsen.

Takket Supporteralliansen

RBK-spilleren satte inn hodestøtene sine i det 22. og 61. minutt. Paraguay rakk å score to relativt enkle mål mellom de norske målene. Den første på heading etter dødball, og den andre etter en gjennomløpning.

Hareide skulle selvfølgelig vært baklengsmålene foruten, men viktigere var det å vise frem et norsk lag med vilje og evne til å spille offensiv fotball.

- Så lenge vi skaper noe positivt, får vi enda flere folk på tribunen, sa Hareide som takket Supporteralliansen for støtten.

Det er i alle fall ingen grunn til å bli sittende hjemme om Norge fortsetter å spille som i kveld.

The Czech Republic began their UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign in solid fashion as two goals in nine first-half minutes defeated Denmark in the first round of matches in Elite round Group 4.

Decisive spell
The Czechs sat out the qualifying round but were quickly into their stride at the Metalurg stadium in Donetsk with Martin Femin slotting in the opening goal from inside the Danish penalty area in the 27th minute. Eight minutes later Jaroslav Horák's team launched a swift counterattack and out-numbered their opponents three-to-one, allowing Jakub Mareš to race clear and slot the second goal into the corner.

Friday fixtures
It might have been even worse for the Danes, who face Switzerland in their next fixture on Friday, but Kamil Vacek missed an 80th-minute penalty for the Czech Republic. The Czechs take on mini-tournament hosts Ukraine in their second match.

Switzerland revived their hopes of reaching the UEFA European Under-19 Championship final tournament with a crucial 2-0 victory against Denmark to get off the mark in Elite round Group 4.

Essential victory
Having lost their opening game to mini-tournament hosts Ukraine on Wednesday, Claude Ryf's team went into today's fixture at the Metalurg stadium in Donetsk knowing their victory was all but essential to maintain their challenge. In the event goals either side of half-time from two FC Basel 1893 players, midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic and forward Sven Jegge, proved enough to secure a victory that ended Denmark's bid to progress to Poland.

Czech chase
Switzerland end their campaign against section leaders the Czech Republic on Sunday when anything less than three points will ensure the Czechs, on maximum points from two games, win the section. Denmark, meanwhile, finish off against Ukraine the same day with the hosts also having to win to have a chance of catching the Czechs.

Ukraine bowed out of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in spite of a comprehensive victory against Denmark in the final round of matches in Elite round Group 4.

Final-day fillip
Defeat against the Czech Republic on Friday had ended the mini-tournament hosts' hopes of progressing to this summer's finals in Poland, although Anatoliy Buznik's side at least ensured they ended their campaign on a positive note with victory in Donetsk. Olexandr Gladkyy opened the scoring in the 28th minute and Vitaliy Fedoriv doubled the lead on the hour mark before Sergiy Kolesnychenko made sure of the win with a third goal eleven minutes from time.

Czechs progress
The result left Ukraine level with the Czechs and Switzerland on six points, with the Czechs winning the section by virtue of their superior head to head record in matches between the sides and the Ukrainians down in third position. Denmark finished bottom of the standings having lost all three games.

Marc Pedraza Sartó scored twice as Spain eased to a 4-0 victory against Sweden as the teams opened their Elite round group campaign in Callosa del Segura.

Pique opener
The difference between the two sides was up front, where Spain were clinical as they earned three crucial points in front of a full house in El Municipal. Manchester United FC defender Gerard Pique Bernabéu headed the Spanish team in front midway through the first half, but it was not until after the break that La Furia Roja put the result beyond doubt.

Pedraza unmarked
RCD Espanyol's promising midfielder Pedraza side-footed in number two, before Albacete's César Diaz Martínez struck a fine individual goal - powering towards goal before clipping the ball into the far corner of the net as the goalkeeper approached. The fourth goal came shortly before the final whistle when Pedraza was left unmarked in the centre of the area and was left with the simple job of tapping in from close range.

Cyprus next
Spain face Cyprus on Sunday before wrapping up the group stage on Tuesday evening with the tie of the round against Germany, Sweden's next opponents.

A late penalty from Dennis Aogo gave Germany a vital victory that kept Horst Hrubesch's side level with hosts Spain at the top of UEFA European Under-19 Championship Elite round Group 7.

Nerveless Aogo
The game at the Municipal stadium in Callosa del Segura looked to be heading for a draw after Sweden's Daniel Larsson cancelled out Fabian Schönheim's 26th-minute opener five minutes into the second half. However, with nine minutes remaining the Germans were awarded a spot-kick and Aogo held his nerve to beat Swedish goalkeeper Magnus Berglöv from the penalty spot, although the SC Freiburg defender's night ended on a sour note as he was sent off for a second bookable offence in added time.

Tuesday summit meeting
Aogo will therefore miss Germany's decisive Group 7 match, against mini-tournament hosts Spain on Tuesday, through suspension. Both teams have six points having won both their matches so far, although Germany will have to win in Torrevieja if they are to progress to the final tournament in Poland as their goal difference is inferior. The Swedes, meanwhile, will hope to pick up their first points again Cyprus the same day.

Sweden ended UEFA European Under-19 Championship Elite round Group 7 with three points after closing their campaign with victory against Cyprus.

Points secure
Group hosts Spain - who finished first - and Germany had both defeated each of these opponents on the opening two Matchdays to end their respective hopes of qualifying for the finals in Poland. Sweden had the better goal difference and only needed a draw to avoid finishing last, but had the better of the play and Brwa Nouri put them ahead on 22 minutes with Jonas Lantto adding another just before the half-hour. Rawez Lawan struck the third in the 60th minute to put the game beyond Cyprus, who did at least end a campaign that included qualifying round wins against Norway and Malta with a goal in injury time from Alexandros Dimitriou.

Daniel Agger - Liverpool FC defender Daniel Agger was voted Denmark's Under-21 Player of the Year in April in recognition for his performances in helping his country qualify for these finals in Portugal. The 21-year-old scored three goals in six qualifying games, in addition to turning out for the full national team for whom he has four caps. Agger's form for his country and Brøndby IF (where he won the double in his first season) prompted Liverpool to pay €8.4m for his services during the January transfer window. Denmark coach Flemming Serritslev said: "Daniel is a complete defender. He is extremely quick and also good at going forward which has added a new dimension to our team." Agger suffered a knee injury in training in early September which sidelined him for three months, although he showed no ill effects as he made four Premiership starts for Liverpool.

Rasmus Würtz - A cornerstone of this Denmark squad, Würtz entered the finals in Portugal having played 25 U21 internationals and one at senior level, a friendly against Finland in June 2005 in which Daniel Agger also made his debut. Würtz actually played those nine minutes wearing the captain's armband, with Jon Dahl Tomasson having handed it to the youngster as he replaced him. That call was a reward for Würtz's continued sterling form for club Aalborg BK, with the midfielder having missed only a handful of Superliga games over the last four seasons.

Thomas Kahlenberg - A supremely gifted young footballer, Kahlenberg is a powerful attacking midfield player with an attitude and will to win to match. The least experienced and youngest member of Denmark's UEFA EURO 2004™ squad, Kahlenberg replaced his injured then club-mate Morten Wieghorst in the 23 for Portugal having only represented the senior national team twice as a substitute. Now has six full caps in addition to playing a key role as Denmark qualified for these finals in impressive style, scoring against Ukraine and Georgia in Group 2 and Russia in the play-off. A product of Brøndby IF's superb youth set-up, he broke into the first team in the 2002/03 season and went on to score 28 goals in 96 Superliga games before leaving for AJ Auxerre on a four-year deal last summer after Brøndby had won the Danish title. Soon settled in France, and led the Ligue 1 in assists as he was ever present in his first season.

Nicklas Bendtner - A tall, powerful striker in the English mould, Nicklas Bendtner is learning from some of European football's finest coaches at Arsenal FC. Having played for Denmark at other youth levels, he was the surprise name in the final squad for Portugal. Coach Flemming Serritslev had every faith in the youngest member of his 22-man party, saying: "Having watched Nicklas in training with our U19 team and having seen him playing for Arsenal's reserves I was left in no doubt that he is one of the most exciting young forwards in Denmark. He's the type of player who can single-handedly decide a match." The teenager proved just that on his debut against Spain on 17 May, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win.

Sverige och Finland spelade 0-0 i landskampen på Ullevi.
- Det var lite trögt och påminde om en försäsongsmatch, säger svenske lagkaptenen Olof Mellberg.
Finland startade väldigt optimistiskt. Redan i andra minuten tog sig gästerna igenom det svenska försvaret efter fint spel. Jari Litmanen fick jätteläge att avsluta, men skottet blev löst och gick över. Finland fortsatte övertygande, dock utan att skapa mer än en riktigt bra målchans. Det var högerbacken Petri Pasanen som åtta minuter före paus fick på ett kanonskott från långt som träffade John Alvbåges ribba.
Bästa svenska chansen hade Johan Elmander som fri med finske målvakten Jussi Jääskeläinen försökte lobba. Men lobben blev misslyckad och Jääskeläinen räddade utan problem.

Sveriges assisterande förbundskapten Roland Andersson sa till TV3 i pausen:
- Jag är imponerad av Finlands försvarsspel. Vi måste spela rakare och vara mer rejäla. Aggressiviteten saknas och vi måste försöka pressa bollhållaren.
Visst blev det bättre i den andra halvleken. Sverige tog över matchen fullständigt och dominerade kraftigt.

Johan Elmander hade två kanonlägen att spräcka den svenska nollan. Med halvtimmen kvar fick han en fin boll av Niclas Alexandersson och kom ren från höger. Precis i skottögonblicket fick han dock en knuff och Jussi Jääskeläinen kunde rädda utan större problem. Kvarten senare hade han sin stora chans. Kim Källström lyfte mycket vackert fram till Elmander som lobbade över den utrusande Jääskeläinen, men bollen smet precis utanför stolpen. Strax innan hade Christian Wilhelmsson och inbytte Marcus Allbäck samspelat fin på vänsterkanten. Det resulterade i ett friläge för "Chippen", men Jääskeläinen kunde rädda
Marcus Allbäck hade också en hyfsad chans efter inlägg från Alexandersson. Men Allbäcks nick gick en bit över.

- Första halvleken är inte godkänd. I andra var det betydligt bättre. Finnarna skapade en del i början och var svåra att anfalla mot. De stod rätt hela tiden. Vi spelade hela tiden framför deras mittfältare och försvarare i första. I andra spelade vi förbi deras försvar, sa Roland Andersson efter matchen.
En av matchens förgrundsfigurer, Kim Källström, var mycket nöjd med sin insats.
- Det kändes väldigt, väldigt bra i dag. Jag hade många bra passningar och fick tag i bollen mycket. Framför allt de två passningarna till Elmander kändes väldigt bra. Synd att han inte satte någon. Det går inte att vara helt nöjd efter 0-0. Men man ska komma ihåg att vi kommer från en lugn vecka med mycket lek och skratt. Det kommer att bli en helt annan fokus inför Chile-matchen, sa Källström.

Erik Edman har inte spelat fotboll på sju veckor. Mot Finland höll foten bra och han spelade 85 minuter.
- Det viktigaste var att jag skulle orka att spela 90 minuter samt att foten kändes bra. Jag kan förstå om folk är besvikna. Vi har mjukstartat med tre träningar och det kommer att bli mycket, mycket bättre redan mot Chile, lovar Edman.
Rami Shaaban bytte av John Alvbåge i paus och hade en mycket lugn landslagsdebut.
- Det var jätteskoj. Jag kände mig bekväm med fötterna och fick plocka ned några inlägg. Min uppgift i VM blir att stötta "Isak". Han är etta och mina tankar är inte att peta honom. Men skulle det hända "Isak" någonting så är jag beredd.

Det svenska landslaget tar nu ledigt fredag och lördag för att sedan åter samlas på söndag, för träning på Råsunda. En träning som är öppen för allmänheten.
Nästa fredag, den 2 juni, väntar match mot Chile på Råsunda innan laget så reser ner till tyska Bremen lördagen den 3 juni.

Kahlenberg earns Denmark a point

Denmark and the Netherlands are still searching for their first victory in UEFA European Under-21 Championship Group B following their 1-1 draw in Aveiro.

Huntelaar opener
Klaas Jan Huntelaar provided the highlight of the first half as the AFC Ajax forward slid in on 38 minutes to divert Daniël de Ridder's low cross from the right beyond Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard, and Thomas Kahlenberg the high point of the second as he gratefully fired the ball high into the empty Dutch net three minutes after the restart. Denmark now have two points to the Netherlands' one, although both countries retain hope of reaching the semi-finals when the pool concludes with respective matches against Ukraine and Italy on Monday.

Changes
The Netherlands coach Foppe de Haan responded to the 2-0 loss to Ukraine by making four changes, two of which saw Patrick Gerritsen and Ismaïl Aisatti introduced to a midfield criticised for a lack of industry on Wednesday. Opposite number Flemming Serritslev stuck with virtually the same team which had performed so impressively in the 3-3 draw against the holders Italy, Martin Bergvold coming in for Simon Poulsen as the Scandinavians switched from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2.

Great pass
As he had after coming on against Ukraine, Aisatti played immediately with an assuredness belying his 17 years. The PSV Eindhoven player showed plenty of neat touches, working well in tandem with Nicky Hofs, who instigated the Netherlands' first promising raid in the eighth minute with a superb outside-of-the-boot pass to Gerritsen down the left flank. The winger was able to look up and whip in a cross to Huntelaar only for Daniel Agger to step in and avert the danger. Denmark countered quickly, Nicklas Bendtner finding space before having a powerful shot charged down.

Counterattacking
A determined run from Agger, Paul Verhaegh's fizzing drive and Jonas Kamper's whipped cross into the corridor of uncertainty followed, although the first real action either goalkeeper saw came when each picked the ball out of the back of his net. Huntelaar's goal from five metres provided the perfect conclusion to a flowing move involving Hofs and De Ridder - a lead which lasted just ten minutes as the Netherlands' back four were caught cold by a long diagonal ball. The punt from defence fell to Jonas Kamper whose shot missed the target but not the unmarked Kahlenberg who made no mistake.

Bizarre
Denmark almost struck again with an identical move straight after, Kamper's cross-shot narrowly eluding Bendtner as the Arsenal FC teenager charged in. With control having shifted to the team in red, the Danes nearly handed it back on a plate as Leon Andreasen went close to scoring the most bizarre of headed own goals from Verhaegh's harmless cross; the defender's wry smile said it all. Denmark finished the stronger, yet only had a rasping drive from Bergvold and Morten 'Duncan' Rasmussen's half chance to show for their industry.
