Tottenham have emerged as serious bidders for Internazionale striker Christian Vieri.
The Italy international is believed to be unsettled in Milan and Spurs are willing to set up a daring transfer raid to bring the English-speaking attacker to London.
Well-informed sources in Italy claim the former Atletico Madrid forward is certain to quit Inter before the new season gets underway, despite Inter supremo Massimo Moratti insisting there are no problems between the player and coach Roberto Mancini.
It is also understood that Vieri would be attracted by a possible switch to the English capital as he would be guaranteed regular first team football ahead of the World Cup finals in Germany next year.
Contact has reportedly been made by Spurs and they are in a good position to challenge for his signature, even though there is certain to be rival interest from elsewhere.
Valencia and Atletico Madrid will be monitoring the situation closely, and Milan and Juventus are admirers of the 31-year-old, but a new experience abroad is thought to appeal to the former Atletico marksman.
Inter could even agree to cancel his contract at Giuseppe Meazza which would boost Spurs' hopes of being able to put together a financial package enticing enough for Vieri to head for England.
