Cole set for new Gunners deal
Ashley Cole will agree a one-year extension to his contract with Arsenal, with agent Jonathan Barnett confirming that an agreement to end summer hostilities is close.
Cole looked set to leave The Gunners after being fined for an illegal meeting to discuss a move to Chelsea.
Despite his assertions in the English media that he felt he could not play for Arsenal after the incident, the England international looks set to agree a deal that will put him on £70,000 a week for another three years.
"I am pleased to say amicable discussions have taken place in the aftermath of a of a very difficult situation," Barnett told the News of the World.
"Both sides are now close to an agreement that would see Ashley remain at Highbury.
"Perhaps now people will believe there were no secret deals to join another club."
The news will be a major boon to the club's fans, who were left dismayed this week by the sale of Patrick Vieira to Juventus.
