Roma duo cleared for transfer

The FIGC has ruled that Cesare Bovo and Gianluca Curci will be able to play for Roma this season despite the transfer embargo, while the team beat Panathinaikos in a test.

FIFA have prevented the club from signing any new players for the next two transfer sessions and the embargo was made active on June 30, but contracts for the new season are automatically set to begin on July 1.


Because of this, the position of Shabani Nonda, Samuel Kuffour and Rodrigo Taddei is in doubt and their contracts could be invalidated.


However, the FIGC will back Roma in their legal challenge against this ruling and have now stated that the signing of Bovo and Curci is safe.


The two players were on co-ownership deals with Palermo last year and the entirety of their contracts was bought up on June 30.


The Italian Federation therefore insists that their moves were valid because all co-ownership issues must be resolved by that date, just missing the FIFA transfer ban by a matter of hours.


The Giallorossi were in action last night and beat Panathinaikos 2-1. The friendly game had ended 1-1 with Gekas giving the Greek giants the lead before Daniele De Rossi's equaliser on a Taddei assist. Philippe Mexes and Amantino Mancini wasted two glorious opportunities, but Roma eventually won on penalties.
