Baros edging closer to Villa move
Liverpool striker Milan Baros has revealed that he is moving closer to finalising a transfer to Aston Villa.
Villa initially said they would not pay more than ￡6m for the 23-year-old, with Liverpool insisting they wanted ￡7m.
But Baros said: "Villa increased their offer and we've come to an agreement on the financial front. But that doesn't mean that it's already a done deal.
"Villa are a quality club, and I don't consider this a backward step at all. My situation will be better there."
It is thought that Villa are prepared to compromise on the fee and pay Liverpool ￡6.5m.
Baros said talks about the move would continue when he returned from the Czech Republic's friendly against Sweden in Prague on Wednesday.
The striker has never managed to cement a regular place in the Liverpool side since arriving at Anfield in 2001.
He was Liverpool's joint top-scorer with 13 goals last season, having found himself thrust into the first team following the long-term injury to French international Djbril Cisse.
But Baros finds himself behind a fit-again Cisse, Fernando Morientes and Peter Crouch in the pecking order.
Everton, Schalke 04, West Ham, Lyon and Valencia have already shown interest in him.
"Everything leads me to believe that there's nothing for it but to say my goodbyes to Liverpool," he said.
"The manager has his own view of things and intends to focus on other players. Me, I have no intention of keeping the stands warm."
He added: "It happens, that's football. I'm not bitter."
