Osim praises players' effort

HANOI - Japan coach Ivica Osim praised his players for their solid performance but admitted that in the end fatigue took it's toll as Saudi Arabia reached the final of the AFC Asian Cup.
Japan suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Middle Eastern team in the semi-finals of the competition at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, seeing their third-straight title challenge brought to an end.
The two-time defending champions rallied to cancel out the Saudi's lead twice.
Trailing 1-0, Yuji Nakazawa scored a header from a Yasuhito Endo corner in the 37th minute and after the break, when 2-1 down, defender Yuki Abe scored a fine volley in the 53rd minute.
But Saudi forward Malek Maaz struck his second of the day four minutes later to seal the victory.
"I'd like to congratulate our Japanese players, who did well,” Osim said. "They played wit all their might to the very end.
"But unfortunately, their fatigue overwhelmed them, which happened especially to our key players.
"When you are tired, you tend to be slow with creating some ideas."
The former Yugoslavia coach, however, denied that his side were inferior to their opponents.
He added: “We levelled the game twice but couldn't do it three times.
"But I never thought we were inferior to our opponents. If you look at the game, we created far more chances than they did. But they [Saudi Arabia] were lucky.
"Saudi Arabia scored three goals on three chances, which we gave away when we lost our concentrations.
"We were worn out before we scored a goal and while we were still attacking. We couldn’t create effective chances that would lead us to score,” Osim said.
The 66-year-old coach said that he will stick to a style of football that he is introducing to the Japanese players.
Osim added: “You’ve got to analyse the moments, how you gave up the goals. We are taking risks to play the game, which means we have more chances to concede goals.
"We played two defenders against two forwards. By doing so, we can have extra man available, which is our playmaker, and can take the initiative in midfield." 262戰術
