MiddlesbroughSiena are ready to re-open talks with Middlesbrough regarding the future of Massimo Maccarone, according to reports in Italy.

Maccarone enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Tuscan side last season, scoring seven goals in eight league starts.

Siena were looking to take Maccarone on a season-long loan, but the Italian striker recently returned to England after negotiations between the two sides broke down, with the Italian club not prepared to pay all of the 25-year-old's salary.

Despite dipping into the transfer market for Erjon Bodgani and Roberto Nanni, speculation persists that president Paolo De Luca is set to once again check on the possibility of loaning the Middlesbrough forward.

Maccarone recently attracted interest from Championship side Southampton, but he was not prepared to play in the lower echelons of English football

MiddlesbroughMassimo Marazzina has signed for Siena, presumably ending the Serie A club's interest in Massimo Maccarone.

The striker, who is a free agent after having his contract at Torino annulled following their relegation, has joined the Tuscan outfit on a three-year deal.

Siena had looked to try and re-sign Maccarone, who was on loan with the club last term, but Middlesbrough rejected their bid for the Italian attacker, who was on the substitutes' bench for the Premiership clash at Birmingham City.

Instead of snapping up Maccarone again, Siena have instead turned to Marazzina, who could figure in Gigi De Canio's plans for Sunday's season opener against Cagliari.
