England's John Terry will miss the World Cup qualifiers with Wales and Northern Ireland due to a knee injury.
Terry picked up the injury playing for Chelsea on Saturday and has been ruled out for four weeks.
Fulham's Zat Knight has been called up but Terry's starting place is likely to go to Liverpool's Jamie Carragher or Matthew Upson of Birmingham.
Skipper David Beckham and midfielder Steven Gerrard also missed Tuesday's training session.
Beckham has a sore foot which is not considered serious and he is expected to join in training at Arsenal's London Colney headquarters on Wednesday.
Gerrard was not able to take part in the main session because of his thigh injury, although he was receiving treatment from England physiotherapist Gary Lewin.
Gerrard is a doubt after missing the Super Cup last Friday with a calf injury.
