Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce is hoping Andy Cole's return from injury can coincide with the team regaining their winning mentality.
The former Manchester United striker has been out for three weeks with a hamstring strain and in that period City have endured a mini-slump.
They go into the home match against Everton on Sunday on the back of defeats by Newcastle, Bolton and most alarmingly Doncaster in the Carling Cup.
Cole, though, is back in training and in line for a recall to the starting line up should he come through the next 24 hours unscathed.
Pearce said: "Andy is a quality player, that's why we bought him.
"He has returned to training and that is a bonus for us.
"I am pleased to have him back as he is a good man to have around the club.
"The players like him and he has fitted in extremely well. He's got a couple of key goals for us."
City's player of the month Joey Barton is doubtful with an ankle injury while Ben Thatcher has a similar problem.
Barton was in action at Newcastle but Pearce said: "I don't think he was 100% fit. He struggled a little bit."
Pearce believes there is no need for panic just yet as they prepare to face an Everton team who chalked up only their second win in 10 games by beating Dinamo Bucharest in the UEFA Cup.
He said: "We address every game, win, lose or draw and see what we can be better at.
"We believe the base we have given the players will be good enough to achieve the right results.
"We have been fairly tight at the back but probably we need a touch more from midfield and up front."
The defeat of the Romanians may just kick-start Everton's season and Pearce certainly believes David Moyes' side are too good to be rooted in the relegation zone.
"Everton did extremely well. There was a great tempo to the game," he said.
"They didn't look like a side at the bottom of the Premiership. They are in a false position. Everton played with confidence and will be in the top half come the end of the season.
"With the Premiership being so tight, they haven't had the rub of the green in certain games."
