Former Middlesbrough and France midfielder Christian Karembeu has announced his retirement from football.
Karembeu enjoyed a career spanning 15 years, which saw him play in six countries for seven different clubs.
He also earned 53 caps for France and the pinnacle of his career came for his adopted nation when he helped them to World Cup victory in 1998.
"I've decided it's time to stop, although I'll be having a kick-about from time to time," he told RMC Radio.
"I've no regrets, it's a decision I've thought long and hard about. I just want to try something else."
New Caledonian-born Karembeu, who won the Oceania Player of the Year award twice, began his playing life in 1990 with Nantes, where he spent five seasons before joining Sampdoria.
A successful stint in Serie A then saw a move to Real Madrid beckon and he remained at El Santiago Bernabeu for three years.
After Real, Bryan Robson tempted Karembeu to Teesside to join Middlesbrough - but a season of struggle followed.
Following Robson's departure, new Boro boss Steve McClaren could not convince Karembeu to remain and he accepted a move to Olympiakos.
After three years in Greece Karembeu joined Servette before their financial collapse.
Karembeu's last club proved to be Bastia, who he joined last season before departing in the summer
