Ronaldo gets Spanish passport
By Paul Higham - Created on 10 Nov 2005
Real Madrid's Brazilian superstar Ronaldo has been granted Spanish citizenship, meaning that the club are now free to sign another non-EU player.
Ronaldo joins fellow Brazilian Roberto Carlos in acquiring a European passport, after the powerful left back gained his back in August.
It now leaves just Robinho and Julio Baptista as non-EU players at El Santiago Bernabeu and makes room for another foreign player in the squad.
Three-time World Player of the Year Ronaldo has completed four years in Spain, one with Barcelona in 1996-97 season before returning to the country with Real Madrid in 2002.
With Real's policy of adding one more Galactico to the squad every year, it now frees up a space in the squad for another player from outside Europe.
