SEATTLE -- New York Knicks guard Quentin Richardson has left the team because of a family emergency, amid reports his brother was shot and killed in Chicago.
The Knicks said Richardson left the team Monday, but would not say why.
Madison Square Garden Network reported during its telecast of the Knicks' game against Seattle on Tuesday that Richardson's brother was shot in Chicago on Monday.
Knicks spokesman Jonathan Supranowitz said it is uncertain when Richardson will return.
A Cook County medical examiner's office spokesman said a Lee Richardson, 31, of Chicago, died of multiple gunshot wounds on Monday. Quentin Richardson had a brother, Lee, according to the Phoenix Suns' 2004 media guide.
When Richardson was 12, his brother Bernard was shot and killed by robbers.
Richardson is in his first season with the Knicks after playing last season in Phoenix. He is averaging 6.9 points in 14 games.
