The simmering feud between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger is reported to have been accelerated by a festive snub from the Arsenal chief.
After Chelsea effectively ended The Gunners' participation in the title race with a 2-0 victory at Highbury on Sunday, Blues boss Mourinho attracted widespread criticism for his failure to shake Wenger's hand as he scampered down the tunnel.
The snub from the Portuguese tactician was the latest event in a growing split between the London giants, with Wenger previously threatening legal action against Mourinho after being called a 'vouyeur'.
It is now being widely reported that Mourinho attempted to heal the split by penning a conciliatory message in a Christmas card to his Arsenal counterpart, explaining his comments were not meant to cause offence.
No reply was forthcoming from the Frenchman and a member of Arsenal's backroom staff reputedly asked a Chelsea rival whether the gesture of goodwill was in fact Mourinho's doing or a PR exercise from the Premiership champions.
Mourinho was also denied the chance to speak with Wenger before kick-off, and reportedly angered at the continual snub he opted not to seek out his great rival after seeing off Wenger's Premiership challenge.
Both bosses are currently under the watch of The Football Association for their outspoken outbursts in recent weeks, with The FA anticipating Mourinho's explanation for his comments about cheating regarding Wigan's Lee McCulloch later on Tuesday.
