Chelsea have condemned death threats made towards referee Terje Hauge in the wake of Wednesday's clash with Barcelona.
The Norwegian official angered Blues fans, players and officials for sending off Asier Del Horno for a clumsy lunge at Lionel Messi during Wednesday's UEFA Champions League meeting at Stamford Bridge.
Hauge came in for criticism from Chelsea players, but some supporters overstepped the line when death threats were issued on the club's forum and Norwegian forums.
It follows similar threats made to Anders Frisk after he sent off Didier Drogba in the first leg of the sides' meeting last season, actions which prompted the Swedish official to retire from the game.
Chelsea took swift action by removing the offending messages and a club spokesman has condemned the actions of those who posted the threats.
"As with the Anders Frisk situation last year, Chelsea football club totally condemns any threats made to referees, officials, players or supporters of any club or organisation," a Blues spokesman told The Sun.
"The problem is that most of these messages are posted under false names. Tracking the culprits might not prove to be an easy task."
