Zac rejects Udinese option

Unemployed Coach Alberto Zaccheroni has ruled out a rumoured return to Udinese. “It doesn’t fit in with my needs,” he stated.

The Meldola-born tactician has been linked with a move to the Stadio Friuli in a bid to rejuvenate the struggling club’s fortunes.

But Zaccheroni, who spent three seasons with the Bianconeri, insists he’s not about to step back in time.

“I would exclude a return to Udinese,” he told Sky Italia. “I’ll return to work when I find a project which is adaptable to my needs.

“At this moment in time I don’t see any opportunity to do this in Italy. Therefore, for the first time in my career, I’ll agree to a foreign move – either to Spain or England.”

Zac hasn’t been in work since he was released by Inter in the summer of 2004 in favour of Roberto Mancini.

Before then he was considered as one of Italy’s best as his trademark 3-4-3 tactics saw him lead Udinese to firstly fifth and then third in the League – their highest ever finish in 1998.

Those exploits earned him a Milan switch and he won the Scudetto in his first campaign at the San Siro, before he was also handed temporary charge of Lazio.

Udinese, who sacked Serse Cosmi this term, are currently bossed by the coaching duo of Loris Dominissini and Nestor Sensini.

The Friuli side may now make a move for Ascoli boss Marco Giampaolo who has enjoyed a stunning debut campaign in the top flight.
