Real yet to make Eriksson contact


Real Madrid have made no contact with England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson over the managerial role at the Bernabeu.

Eriksson, who wants to resolve his future before the start of the World Cup finals this summer, has been named on a Real shortlist of seven coaches.

Eriksson's agent Athole Still told BBC Sport: "There has been no contact whatsoever from Real Madrid.

"Sven wants to sort out his position before the World Cup starts, although he is leaving all of that to me."

Still added: "Apart from the odd day of holiday here and there Sven is concentrating 100% on England and preparing for the World Cup."

Eriksson's agent refused to say whether Eriksson was intent on returning to a club job when he leaves the England position after the World Cup finals.

"There is a blank sheet of paper and we will consider all the possibilities. There will be no shortage of offers," he said.

Chelsea's Jose Mourinho, Liverpool's Rafael Benitez, Arsene Wenger of Arsenal as well as Italians Carlo Ancelotti, Fabio Capello and Marcello Lippi complete the Real shortlist.

But Real midfielder David Beckham believes Eriksson would be an ideal choice to take over from temporary manager Juan Ramon Lopez Caro at the Bernabeu.

Beckham plays under the Swede in his role as England captain and the 30-year-old told the Sun: "Sven is one of the best managers around and his name was bound to come into the equation. I think he would work well.

"I don't know who it will be as it's not my decision. Sven is the obvious one because he will be out of a job. He will be free and available so we will see.

"I don't think he would have a problem with any place he went to. I think he is an experienced manager and can handle it.

"He has been the English manager for five years and has handled the pressures there so I'm sure he can handle it wherever he manages.

"One of his biggest qualities is his man-management - the way he treats the players and what he gets out of the players. He gives the players a lot of respect."
