Reggina midfielder Giacomo Tedesco has been handed a four-match ban and Cagliari’s Antonio Langella a two-game suspension for the brawl that broke out on Sunday.
Several players clashed on their way back into the players’ tunnel after Reggina’s 2-0 victory at the Stadio Sant’Elia.
It emerged from witnesses and the referee’s report that the incident started when Tedesco made a highly offensive remark to Cagliari’s Nelson Abeijon about a genetic illness his daughter was born with.
Abeijon tried to react, but was held back by teammates and club directors. Langella escaped their grasp and exchanged punches with Tedesco.
The Disciplinary Commission noted: “The tension inside the tunnel was gradually eased thanks to the intervention of other players, directors and the President of Reggina, who apologised for Tedesco’s behaviour.”
Tedesco has been handed a four-match ban, while Langella will sit out the next two Serie A games. Abeijon received a £2,000 fine for his part in the melee.
“This is the right decision, as the Disciplinary Commission correctly interpreted the course of events,” said the Uruguayan. |
