Larsson adds to Barcelona's injury problems

MADRID, April 15 (Reuters) - Barcelona striker Henrik Larsson will miss Tuesday's first leg of the Champions League semi-final against AC Milan because of a thigh injury, the Primera Liga club said on Saturday.

The Swedish international limped off the pitch just nine minutes into a 1-0 victory over Villarreal at the Nou Camp on Friday.


Larsson's replacement Santi Ezquerro followed him down the tunnel 25 minutes later after suffering bruising to his right knee and is doubtful for Tuesday's match at the San Siro.

League leaders Barca will also be without Argentine international Lionel Messi, who is expected to be out of action for at least another three weeks with a thigh muscle tear.

Brazilian forward Ronaldinho, who has been rested for the past two league matches because of a minor thigh injury, has been given the all-clear to play.

Barca's Messi likely to miss AC Milan semi

MADRID, April 13 (Reuters) - Barcelona forward Lionel Messi will miss both legs of the Champions League semi-final against AC Milan and will return home to Argentina for treatment on his thigh muscle injury.

The club said the 18-year-old international will fly out next Tuesday and will be treated by club medical staff.


Messi has been out of action since the beginning of March when he tore a thigh muscle during the second leg of a 3-2 aggregate victory over Chelsea in the first knockout round.

'He needs more time,' said Barca coach Frank Rijkaard. 'It might be good for him to have a change of scenery and recover completely. He will return when he has recovered.'

Argentine national team doctor Donato Villani said the player could be out of action for a further month.

'It's a complicated sort of tear,' Villani was quoted as saying in the Spanish media on Thursday. 'He's going to need three or four more weeks treatment.

'In my opinion he will be ready to play only one more game this season and that will be the Champions League final.'

Barcelona meet Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday before hosting the return match at the Nou Camp on April 26.

Messi has been one of Barca's most exciting players this season. The latest injury set-back means Sweden striker Henrik Larsson is likely to retain his place in the starting line-up for the Milan match.

拿臣缺陣馬基斯候命

上周五對維拉利爾拉傷大腿的巴塞前鋒軒歷拿臣，證實將於明晚缺陣，但養傷多時的後防主力馬基斯已可候命。至於已飛返阿根廷接受治療的美斯表示會冷靜面對大腿肌肉傷勢，只有在隊醫確保完全傷癒時，才會返回巴塞隆拿。
