UEFA holds 2 major cups

1. UEFA Champion League, if Arsenal win the thropy this year, they will automatically enter the group stage next season, as the previous winner, the thropy holder, no matter they are placed at no.5 in the domestic league

2.UEFA Cup, if Middlesbrough win the UEFA cup, they can't automatically enter the group stage next season, even inter toto cup.

Probably the importance of uefa cup is not as crucial as the champion league, probably middlesbrough realize that they can't handle 2 major competition, and afraid that they will have a bad result in the domestic league (no.15 in EPL), why no one fight for a uefa cup place to middlesbrough as fierce as tottenham?
