EXCLUSIVE: SPURS IN FOR £1MILLION CARLTON
EXCLUSIVE
By John Cross
OTTENHAM boss Martin Jol expects to sign Chelsea striker Carlton Cole in a
bargain £1million deal.
England Under-21 striker Cole, 22, was a target for Spurs last summer and
Jol has gone back for him. Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe would both play
alongside either Bulgarian hitman Dimitar Berbatov or Cole, who would be
understudy to Spurs' £10.7m new signing.
Jol has already told Mido that Spurs will not be making his loan move from
Roma permanent.
Cole would want assurances from the Dutchman that he would get more chances
at White Hart Lane than he did at Stamford Bridge.
Jol wants to rotate his strikers next term but whether Defoe and Cole will
be happy with that is questionable, especially as Defoe missed out on the
World Cup squad after losing his first-team place to Keane.
Defoe has vowed to stay and fight for his place but if Liverpool came back
with a big-money offer Tottenham, and the England striker might find it hard
to resist.
