Cisse expected to return from leg break in November
fr:soccernet.com--Liverpool expect Djibril Cisse to make a rapid recovery from the broken leg which ended his World Cup dream.
The France striker was forced out of his country's squad last night after breaking the tibia and fibula of his right leg in a warm-up international against China.
The 24-year-old missed most of the 2004-05 season with a similar injury to his left leg sustained at Blackburn in October 2004.
But his latest operation has been a thorough success and Liverpool club doctor Mark Waller predicted Cisse would return to first-team action by November.
'The latest news we've had is extremely positive. He's had the operation done and everything has gone in a very straightforward fashion,' said Waller.
'The fracture has been repaired with some metalwork in his leg in a similar way to what he had when he broke the other leg in 2004. This fracture is not as severe as the previous one.
'The last time he broke his leg, it took him just 164 days to recover completely - which was just over five months - but this time we're expecting him to recover even quicker. When we talk about him being back, we mean back playing first team football.'
Waller added on Liverpool's club website: 'His recovery last time was so quick because Djibril himself remained positive and worked really hard and obviously he had appropriate management throughout the recovery process.
'Knowing Djibril, he'll show the same willingness to fight back from this new injury and I wouldn't be surprised to seeing him playing as early as November.'
Although the news on Cisse's injury is as good as could be hoped for in the circumstances, it has caused a problem for manager Rafael Benitez.
Benitez has accepted that Cisse's expected move back to French football this summer will not happen, although if Waller is proved right, a January deal could still happen.
Cisse had been expected to move to Marseille or Lyon - and allow Benitez to spend the £8million fee on new players.
Benitez told the Liverpool Echo: 'I'm really sorry for Djibril. That's important. It's really unfortunate for him. But it's true it's now impossible for him to be sold.
'We were expecting to sell him to Marseille or Lyon and planned using the money for other players. We were talking to both clubs. Now we won't have this money. We won't expect him to play again until November or December.'
The Liverpool manager stressed there would be no problem establishing a working relationship again.
He added: 'It was a professional decision and we were honest with Djibril. There will be no problem when he comes back.'
