Robert Huth has agreed to join Middlesbrough after the World Cup, and has sent a message of thanks to Chelsea fans.
Chelsea and Middlesbrough agreed an undisclosed fee last week and, from Germany, Robert announced today, Sunday: “I have spoken with the manager, Gareth Southgate, and have promised him I will join Middlesbrough for the new season.
“The paperwork hasn’t been completed as yet but I have told Middlesbrough that I will sign the contract when it is ready.”
He then spoke to Chelsea Website and sent a message to the fans. “Thank you, thanks for the six years I’ve been here, for the support you gave me and the team.
“You’ve given me great support. Thank you for standing behind me.”
Robert started 32 games for Chelsea and was a substitute in 30 more. He scored two goals. Last season he started 11 games and was a substitute in 10 others. He has won 16 caps and will be 22 in August.
Robert joined Chelsea when he was 16 years old and made 52 reserve team appearances, three as substitute, scoring eight goals, and 41 youth team appearances, five as substitute, scoring five goals.
Manager José Mourinho said at the end of the season: “Robert Huth is a player that is present in the World Cup but you look at him in Chelsea and he has Carvalho, Gallas and Terry in front. This is the kind of player we have to think about getting a solution for that is good for the player and the club.”
Chelsea Football Club thanks Robert Huth for his excellent service and loyalty over the last six years and wishes him the very best in his future. He will always have a special place in our hearts.
