CAHILL'S UNEXPECTED VISIT
by Scott McLeod
Tim Cahill's World Cup exertions for Australia meant he was not back at Bellefield on Monday for the first day of training with the Blues.
Instead, the midfielder has been given permission to take a holiday before joining pre-season training later this month.
The break has provided Cahill, who underlined his position as one of the biggest stars of Australian sport with his brace of goals against Japan in Germany, with the chance to spend time in his native Oz.
He has gone back to his roots, returning to his former primary school earlier this week to meet the children.
He said: "It was great to come back and spend time with the people who made this possible."
Unbelievably, Sydney's Bexley North Public School was only made aware of the star billing of one of its former pupils last year when headmaster Mark Meacham found reference to Tim during his spell at the school in 1990 and 1991. |
