New Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is '70 percent' confident of signing Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
During his election manifesto, Calderon claimed the Spain international was one of three players he would bring to the Bernabeu.
He remains committed to snapping up Fabregas and believes an agreement is in place with the player.
Calderon will now turn his attentions to talking Arsenal into a sale and is optimistic he can fulfil his election pledge.
"Cesc Fabregas, who is playing at Arsenal, wants to come here and I have been talking to him previously," Calderon told Sky Sports News.
"I have to now get in touch with Arsenal as they have the last word in this case.
"I know (Predrag) Mijatovic has been in touch with his representative and he said that he is very much interested in joining Real Madrid.
"I haven't been in touch with David Dein. He is a good friend of mine and I have met him many times.
"If we can get an agreement, it's something we can do. We have a good opportunity of having that player with us.
"I think it's a bit more than 50/50, let's say 70 percent."
Chelsea winger Arjen Robben and Milan playmaker Kaka were the other players on Calderon's wish-list and he confirmed talks are ongoing.
He added: "We're trying to bring three of them here and Robben is the first one.
"I think Mijatovic is in charge of that and he has been in touch with (Chelsea owner Roman) Abramovich and I think everything will be okay.
"In theory they can get an agreement. With the player everything will be okay as the player wants to come here to Real Madrid.
"The third one is Kaka, the Brazilian player in Milan. We know it's going to be difficult because Milan doesn't want to sell the player.
"If the player decides to leave, it will give us more opportunities."
Calderon has also been linked with moves for Manchester United duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who both appear unsettled at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo was courted by one of Calderon's presidential rivals, but the new Real supremo will leave a decision on the United pair to incoming coach Fabio Capello.
"He's (van Nistelrooy) one of the options, but I'm not quite sure what the decision is of Capello.
"I don't know (about Ronaldo). It depends on what Capello says.
"One of my rivals had some agreement with him, but I can't say anything about that. He didn't give me any chance to know the agreement or what he has talked to him about.
"We have to wait and see what Capello thinks about that." |
