Lugano hopes for Atletico move
Uruguay international Diego Lugano is hoping he can secure a transfer to Atletico Madrid.
Reports in Spain have claimed Atletico are exploring a deal for Lugano, who currently plays in Brazil for Sao Paulo.
Over the past 12 months, the centre half has been wanted by Liverpool, Milan, Sevilla and Atletico's city rivals Real.
Though that interest has dried up, Atletico are purportedly keen and Lugano is dreaming of a move to La Liga.
"I know many things about Atletico Madrid," said Lugano. "Atletico is one of the biggest teams in Spain and has a very good squad.
"In addition to that I have always had the dream of playing for a team that is important in Europe and that is what I think about Atletico Madrid.
"I would like very much to have the chance of playing in the Spanish Liga.
"I always watch the European leagues on television, but most of all the Spanish one because my opinion is that the best players of the world are in that league."
Atletico officials are understood to have met with Lugano's agent Juan Figger, although the defender is waiting for confirmation on a possible offer.
He added: "It has been some time since I spoke with Figger, but I suppose that if he has any news for me he will get in touch in the next few days.
"I am very comfortable at Sao Paulo, this is one of the best teams in the world and everyone treats me well here.
"Despite that I am fine at Sao Paulo, nothing can stop the dream that I have of playing in Europe." |
