Vietnam-Afghanistan game postponed to February 14
8February2007
KUALA LUMPUR: FIFA has rescheduled the preliminary qualifying round for the Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008 between Vietnam and Afghanistan to February 14, 2007.
The one-off tie was scheduled to be played on February 7 but the visitors failed to turn up for the game due to flight problems. FIFA, after discussions with both the national associations, decided to postpone the game to February 14.

KUALA LUMPUR: Late goals from Mubashar Hussain and Farooq Shah saw unfancied Pakistan shock Singapore 2-1 in the first leg of the preliminary qualifying round for the Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008.
Khairul Amri opened the scoring for Singapore, whose senior team retained the ASEAN Football Championship last week, in the 57th minute but Hussain struck to equalise in the 79th minute before Shah grabbed the winner three minutes from time, leaving the home team shell-shocked at their Jalan Besar Stadium.
If Pakistan’s win was unexpected, Australia were hot favourites to roll over Chinese Taipei at the Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide and an 11-0 win raised no eyebrows. On the mark for rampant Australia were Mark Milligan (7), Nathan Burns (10), Kristian Sarkies (45, 64, 84, 89), Bruce Djite (48), Nikolai Topor-Stanley (62, 78), Robert Cornthwaite (81) and Dario Vidosic (90).
In Central Asia, Uzbekistan ran out 4-1 winners on expected lines against Tajikistan with goals from Sadriddin Abdullaev (41), Anzur Ismailov (47, 48), Odil Akhmedov (67) while Ibraguim Rabimov pulled one back for the losers in the 52nd minute.
A late goal from Chakrit Buatong in the 78th minute saw Thailand edge Turkmenistan 1-0 and gain an away goal advantage for the return leg.
In Yangon, India drew 1-1 with Myanmar while Hong Kong destroyed Bangladesh 3-0 at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka.
Indonesia scraped past Maldives 1-0 at the Gelora Bungkarno in Jakarta.
In West Asia, Yemen shocked Palestine 2-1.
The Afghanistan team failed to make it for their match against Vietnam and FIFA’s decision is awaited over the fate of this tie.
The return leg will be held on February 14, 2007.

（吉隆坡）2008年北京奧運會亞洲區足球預選賽首回合淘汰賽於昨日在亞洲全面開戰，來自於南亞的巴基斯坦報冷在客場2比1力克東南亞冠軍新加坡，而澳大利亞則在主場11比0大勝中國台北。
來自於國家隊的阿米裡在57分鐘首先為新加坡攻入1球，巴基斯坦的侯賽因在79分鐘講比分扳平，法魯戈薩在89分鐘再入1球，講比分反超，這一入球讓嘉蘭比薩體育場所有現場球迷鴉鵲無聲，不得不接受敗北的結局。
澳大利亞則在主場11比0毫無意外的戰勝中國台北，馬克米裡干（7分鐘）、波恩斯（10分鐘）、克裡斯蒂安（45、64、84、89分鐘）、布魯斯（48分鐘）、尼克來（62、78分鐘）、羅伯特（81分鐘）、維多希科（90分鐘）分別在射手榜上留下了自己的名字。

KUALA LUMPUR: After posting big wins in the first leg last Wednesday, Australia, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong look set to advance to the second round of qualifiers for the Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008 when the return leg takes place tomorrow.
Australia whipped Chinese Taipei 11-0 at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide last week and barring a miraculous comeback by Chai Shang Ming’s charges, the team from down under are poised to join a tough Group D in the second round comprising Iran, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, who qualified automatically without a ball being kicked after the pull-out of Kyrgyzstan from the preliminary qualifying.
Uzbekistan ran out 4-1 winners against Tajikistan and should face little problem in the Central Republican Stadium in Dushanbe for the return leg while Hong Kong host Bangladesh at the Hong Kong Stadium after running three unanswered goals past their rivals in the first leg last week in Dhaka.
Despite the big win, Uzbek coach Vadim Abramov was far from satisfied and hoping for a wider scoreline win tomorrow. “We did not play well…we can play much better. I guess the reason is many of the players were nervous as they were making their debut. Unfortunately, our defenders did not support the forwards and I’ll tell them to do this in the return leg,” said the difficult-to-please Abramov.
Pakistan have a chance to make history of sorts if they defend their 2-1 first leg win over Singapore at the Punjab Football Stadium in Lahore tomorrow. The shock first leg win, scripted by late goals from Mubashar Hussain and Farooq Shah, was hailed as a significant breakthrough by the Pakistani media and fans alike.
“It will be do or die for us in Lahore. We want to win heavily otherwise we would have to say good-bye to Olympic Games soccer,” said Singapore coach Terry Pathmanathan, who is relying heavily on Fazrul Nawaz, Ismail Yunos, Isa Halim and Khairul Amri to deliver the goods.
Pakistan captain Zahid Hameed said: “The win at Jalan Besar infused fighting spirit among our players and this will put our rivals under pressure. It is good to know that we are in the same ranks as Australia, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Yemen who also won the first leg last Wednesday.”
The winner of this will join Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar in the second round in Group A.
Other intriguingly poised encounters will see India hoping to capitalise on home advantage against Myanmar at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata after the 1-1 first leg draw while Thailand play Turkmenistan at the Supachalasai Stadium in Bangkok after their slim 1-0 away win last Wednesday.
Thailand coach Prapol Pongpanich said on the eve of the match: "We'll not try to protect our advantage. If we do that, there is a high possibility of an error. They have no choice but to throw everything forward. That means they will leave a big hole at the back. So, if we can take our chances from a counter-attack, we should win.”
Indonesia travel to Male to meet Maldives (first leg 1-0) while Palestine look to overturn their 2-1 first leg deficit against Yemen at the neutral venue of Abu Dhabi.
Afghanistan take on Vietnam in a one-off tie at the Thien Truong Stadium in Nam Dinh.
The Final (second) home-and-away round will be held from August 22 till November 21, 2007, with the three group winners representing Asia at the Beijing Olympic Games. China have automatic qualification as hosts.

Pakistan fight back to stun Singapore; India, Australia, Uzbekistan through

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan caused the biggest upset in the preliminary qualifying round for the Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008 when they shocked nine-man Singapore 3-2 in the second leg for an aggregate 5-3 victory on Wednesday at the Punjab Stadium in Lahore.
Pakistan now join Asian Games gold medallists Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait in the second round in Group A.
Pakistan, needing just a draw to enter the next phase after winning the first leg 2-1, were trailing by two goals when Khairul Amri (31 and 39) scored for the visitors.
Singapore were reduced to 10 men when their midfielder Hariss Harun was given his marching orders a minute before the interval by Qatari referee Abdulrehman Abdou and their woes were further compounded when Yusisikander Yusap scored an own goal, helping the hosts reduce the deficit in the 65th minute. Pakistani substitute Farooq Shah, who scored in the first leg too, restored parity in the 76th minute.
Singapore had to play the last six minutes with nine men after midfielder Zulfadli Zainal was sent off for a reckless tackle on Abdul Aziz and this helped Muhammad Rasool fire the winner for Pakistan in the 89th minute.
Pakistan coach Muhammad Rasheed, who took over the reins after Bahraini Salman Sharida’s exit in December last year, gave full credit for the astounding victory to teamwork. “Singapore undoubtedly played well in the first half and pressurised us but we adopted a different approach after the break,” said Rasheed.
“I helped the players improve their weak points. Our defence was a bit lazy at times but I am happy that the team showed resilience in the later stages of the match.”
Singapore coach Terry Pathmanathan was disappointed with the result. “It was not a performance which I was looking for and the way our side performed really disappointed me,” he told The News.
In Kolkata, Pakistan’s neighbours India had goalkeeper Subrata Paul to thank for a neat 4-1 win over Myanmar on penalties after the second leg ended a goal apiece at the Salt Lake Stadium, tying the aggregate score 2-2. Paul stopped two shots to earn India in the second round alongside top seeds Iraq, DPR Korea and Thailand.
The match was taken into extra time by Moewin who equalised for Myanmar in injury time after Manjit Singh had put the hosts ahead in the 39th minute. In the shootout, Sunil Kumar, Debabrata Roy, N S Manju and Manjit Singh hit the target, while only Kim Myang could bulge the net for the visiting side.
Thailand ran riot against Turkmenistan for a huge 5-1 win at the Supachalasai Stadium in Bangkok. The Thais had clinched the first leg 1-0 and yesterday Teerasil Dangda (32), Teerathep Winothai (33, 42), Chakrit Buathong (60) and Warut Wongdee (71) were on the mark even as Kiatprawut Saiwaeo scored an own goal in the 46th minute.
"I told the players before the game that if we could control the situation in the opening half an hour, we would win the game because I thought they would come at us first," said Thai coach Prapol Pongpanich.
"It happened exactly as I said. The lads were very determined and did very good jobs today. I had expected a victory with a two-goal margin so the result has really flattered me," added Prapol.
Australia’s progress to the second round might have been a foregone conclusion after their 11-0 first leg win over Chinese Taipei but only a solitary goal separated the two sides in the second leg at the Chungshan Stadium in Taipei.
Captain Mark Milligan was the scorer and he struck midway through the second half to seal Australia’s berth in the second round where they face Iran, Saudi Arabia and Jordan in Group D.
“We have done what we needed to do tonight and can now concentrate on the next match against Iran in two weeks which will undoubtedly be a crucial match in the group,” said Australia coach Robert Baan.
“Our opponents played extremely defensively tonight even when they fell behind in the match so it was a very different type of match to last week for a number of reasons, not least of all our large change in playing personnel.”
Goals from Anzur Ismailov (27) and Marat Bikmaev (90) saw Uzbekistan wrap up an aggregate 6-1 win at the Central Republican Stadium in Dushanbe after their 4-1 first leg victory. The Uzbeks now find themselves in Group F where they play Korea Republic, UAE and Yemen in the second round.
Yemen made sure of second round Olympic qualifying action with a 1-1 draw in the second leg for an aggregate 3-2 win (first leg 2-1). Yasser Bassehy scored late in the 80th minute for Yemen before Palestine’s Mueen Jamal restored parity a minute before the referee’s final whistle at the neutral Zayed City Sports Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
In the one-off tie between Vietnam and Afghanistan played at the Thien Truong Stadium in Nam Dinh, the hosts won 2-0, courtesy goals from Huynh Phuc Hiep and Nguyen Vu Phong. Vietnam join Oman, Lebanon and Indonesia, who drew goalless with Maldives for an aggregate 1-0 win, in the second round in Group C.
Hong Kong wrapped up an aggregate 3-1 win over Bangladesh despite losing the second leg at home in the Chungshai Stadium 1-0. Zahid Hassan Emily was on the mark for Bangladesh in the 43rd minute though it proved to be too little and too late.
The 24-team second round qualifying, which has been split into six groups of four each, runs through February 28 to June 6, 2007, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the Final round which will be played in three groups of four teams each.
The Final home-and-away round will be held from August 22 till November 21, 2007, with the three group winners representing Asia at the Beijing Olympic Games. China have automatic qualification as hosts.

Burkinabe win over Ghana revoked

Fifa has declared Burkina Faso losers of the first round Olympic qualifier against Ghana for fielding two ineligible players.
Ghana football authorities protested to Fifa after Mady Saidou Panandetiguiri and Fousseni Traore played in the first leg match, which Burkina Faso won 2-0 in Ouagadougou on 7 February.
Fifa regulations state that players featuring in this year's qualifiers must be born on or after 1 January 1985, but the Ghanaians discovered that the duo were born in 1984.
Only players under the age of 23 can play in the qualifiers, although teams are allowed to field three over-aged players in the tournament at the Games.
"Two players from Burkina Faso were not eligible to play the game Burkina Faso-Ghana, as part of the preliminary competition for the Olympic Football Tournament in Beijing in 2008," Fifa told BBC Sport.
"In the event of ineligible playing, the sanction to be applied shall be to rule that the match has been forfeited, with victory and a score of 0-3 awarded to the opposing team.
"Consequently, the game between Burkina Faso and Ghana that was played on 7 February 2007 is declared as a Burkina Faso forfeit with a score of 0-3."
The Black Meteors are now better placed to advance to the next round of the competition as they host the second leg in Sunyani on 25 March.
The Bukinabes must now overturn the 3-0 deficit to be able to qualify for the third round of the qualifiers for the Olympic Games to be held in Beijing next year.

在队首回合的比赛中，主场作战的布基纳法索以2：0获胜，但由于赛后被查使用了名大龄球员，该比分失效，取而代之的是0：3负于加纳。
队球员的年龄限制是必须出生在1985年1月1日之后。
不过布基纳法索并不是没有翻盘的机，队3月25日将进行第二回合的比赛，不过这次是加纳的主场。(完）

Big guns set to roll into action in Olympic second round qualifiers

KUALA LUMPUR: The big guns roll into action today in the 24-team second round qualifying for the Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008.
Six groups of four each will play home-and-away until June 6 when the top-two teams in each group advance to the Final round which will be played in three groups of four teams each from August 22 till November 21. The three group toppers will represent Asia at the Beijing Olympics 2008 alongside China who have automatic qualification as hosts.
All eyes will be on Asian top-seeds Iraq today when they clash with unfancied India at the neutral venue of King Abdullah Stadium in Amman in Group E. Iraq won hearts with their astonishingly courageous performance in the Athens Olympics when they finished fourth, losing the bronze by a whisker after going down to Italy in the third-fourth place playoff.
This time though Iraq have been severely hampered by lack of preparations and will go into the game with just two friendlies – against their Jordanian counterparts – behind them.
“The match is very important and a win will give us confidence,” said Iraqi coach Yahya Alwan. “The road to China is very difficult and requires extra hard work as we are short of preparation.”
Pim Verbeek’s Korea Republic, who reached the quarterfinals in Athens, open their campaign against Yemen in Group F at the Suwon World Cup Stadium, with former AFC Youth Player of the Year Park Chu-young leading the charge from the front.
However, the player to watch out for in today’s match would be Seoul FC’s Ko Myung-jin, who set the record of being the youngest player in the K-League when he made his debut at the age of 16 years in 2004.
Group D will see another Athens quarterfinalist Australia take on archrivals Iran in the match of the day at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran where it has been snowing since the Robert Baan-led Australian team landed early Tuesday.
"This (cold) climate will make everything difficult,” said Baan of the freezing temperature. "I don’t really know Iran because I started my job a little time back. I just know that Iran are one the biggest sides in Asia.”
Iran’s attack will be spearheaded by experienced warhorse Hossein Kaabi with support from the exciting Adel Kolah Kaj and Mehrdad Oladi.
“We will surprise Australia at Azadi. I will rely on the enthusiasm of the players,” said Iran coach Vinko Begovic.
In the other Group D game, Saudi Arabia play hosts Jordan at the Amman International Stadium.
Yasuharu Sorimachi’s Japan, bronze medallists in 1968, are favourites to pick up full points against Hong Kong at the National Stadium in Tokyo. FC Tokyo striker Sota Hirayama and Robert Cullen of Jubilo Iwata are expected to start in the game.
“I am looking forward to the match but my players might be nervous as it is their first game,” said Sorimachi.
Group A will see surprise qualifiers Pakistan, who stunned Singapore with a comeback win in the second leg of the preliminary encounter, hope to continue their winning run when they visit Bahrain at the Bahrain National Stadium.
Pakistan were trailing 3-2 on aggregate in the second leg but an own goal and two quick goals from Farooq Shah and Mohamed Rasool saw Mohamed Rasheed’s charges pull off an implausible 5-3 aggregate victory.
Not surprisingly Bahraini manager Aref Abdulrazzaq was cautious while speaking about the hosts’ chances. "I do not agree with those who say we will take Pakistan easily," said Abdulrazzaq
"The Pakistani team is one of the most improved teams in the region and team Bosnian coach Kreso Senad had to make a trip to Lahore on 14 February to watch their match against Singapore which they won 3-2.”
Pakistan coach Rasheed said he would be sticking to what worked against Singapore in the preliminary round. “We will open the game with defensive tactics and go for attack on breakaways.”

（吉隆坡）一眾大腕今日出擊2008年北京奧運亞洲區預選賽次輪小組淘汰賽。
從2007年2月28日至6月6日，24隊分成6組進行主客場淘汰賽。前2晉級最後的3個小組淘汰賽，比賽日期為今年8月22日至11月21日。小組盟主代表亞洲參加奧運，東道主中國自動出線。
伊拉克在中立場地阿曼阿都拉體育場，首戰堪稱E組最弱的印度，告捷可期。伊拉克在上屆雅典奧運勇闖半決賽，可惜在銅牌戰輸給意大利，和獎牌擦肩而過。
無論如何，飽受戰火摧殘的伊拉克，備戰工作不甚順利，他們只和約旦打了兩場友誼賽。
韓國在F組遇上也門，前亞足聯最佳年輕球員朴周永領銜鋒線。在2004年以16歲之齡征戰K聯賽而創下新猷的FC首爾新人王高明珍，也是此場比賽的焦點。
D組方面，上屆奧運8強人馬澳大利亞客場火併伊朗。
伊朗鋒線由經驗豐富的卡比領銜，中場雙子星阿德爾科拉和奧拉迪輔助。主教練貝戈維奇對打敗澳大利亞充滿信心。
沙特阿拉伯在另一邊廂，客場火併約旦。
曾在1968年奪得奧運銅牌的日本，居主欣逢香港，過關不難。分別效力FC東京和磐田山葉的平山相太和羅伯特庫倫，勢成香港後防噩夢。
巴基斯坦在A組作客巴林，放眼續寫神奇。
巴基斯坦在首輪淘汰賽經兩回合比拼壓倒名氣更大的新加坡，主教練拉錫德的執教能力毋庸質疑。巴林主帥阿都拉薩坦言，巴基斯坦並非外人想像中弱，本隊欲贏球，得花上一把勁兒。

No major surprises on Match Day 1 of Olympic second round qualifying

KUALA LUMPUR: There were no major surprises on Match Day 1 of the second round qualifying for the Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008 with the heavyweights posting facile wins on Wednesday.
Twelve matches were played across the continent in six groups.
GROUP A – Bahrain brought surprise second round qualifiers Pakistan down to earth with an 8-0 whipping, with four of these goals scored before the interval at the Bahrain National Stadium in Manama. Abdullah Al Dakeel (20, 24), Ala Eid (34), Ismael Abdul Latif (42), Fatai Babatondo (53, 89), Jecy John (74) and Fauzi Mubarak Aish (86)were on target for the rampaging hosts.
The second match saw Kuwait’s Hamad Al Enazi fire an 83rd minute equaliser to help hold hosts Qatar 2-2 at the Al Sadd Stadium. Majdi Sadeeq opened the scoring for Jamaluddin Musovic’s charges in the 50th minute and Adel Lami doubled the advantage on 64 minutes. Abdullah Msheleh reduced the deficit for Kuwait six minutes later before Al Enazi ensured a share of the points.
GROUP B – Japan had little trouble brushing aside Hong Kong 3-0 at the National Stadium in Tokyo. On the mark for Yasuharu Sorimachi’s team were Sota Hirayama (11), Yohei Kajiyama (66) and Chikashi Masuda (84).
"We got the result we wanted but it was a poor performance," said Sorimachi after the match. "We must now try to improve and get a better result in our next game."
Mohannad Ibraheem fired a hat-trick for Syria at the Al Abbassin Stadium in Damascus as they crushed Malaysia 3-1. The game was over for the Malaysians on the hour mark as Ibraheem ran riot with goals in the 42nd, 52nd and 60th minutes. Jaafar Mohamed pulled one back for Malaysia in the 64th minute but it was too little too late.
GROUP C – Oman beat Indonesia 3-0 for a winning start to their campaign in this group. Indonesia had the worst of starts with an own goal and Oman’s Hassan Zaher and Ibrahim Al Geilani added to their misery at the Sultan Qaboos Stadium.
Le Cong Vinh (33) and Le Huynh Duc (89) scored as Vietnam beat Lebanon 2-0 at the Thein Truong Stadium in Nam Dinh.
GROUP D – Australia did well to hold on against Iran for a scoreless draw and a valuable point in their Azadi Stadium clash in Tehran. There were few chances for either team in the match played in cold conditions with snow falling in the Iranian capital the day prior to the match.
Iran started strongly and had their best opportunity of the match after just seven minutes with Iranian left-winger Milad Meydavoudi unable to beat Australia's goalkeeper Danny Vukovic in a one-on-one situation.
In the other group game, Saleh Al Gweinem’s goal midway through the first half saw Saudi Arabia edge Jordan 1-0.
Saudi coach Brazilian Gilson Nunes said: “We are very happy with the three points. It will give us confidence for our next match against Iran.”
GROUP E – Asian top-seeds Iraq ran three unanswered goals past hapless India at the King Abdullah Stadium in Amman. The Indians managed to keep a clean slate in the first half before Mustafa Karim (51) scored the opener. Ala’a Abdul Zahra (68) and Haider Abudi (70) bulged the net to wrap up the win.
“The first win is very important for us. We were short of preparation and have a long way to go,” said Iraqi coach Yahya Alwan.
In the other group game, DPR Korea surprised Thailand 1-0 at the Supachalasai Stadium. Choe Jin-hyok’s 21st minute goal proved to be the difference as Thailand failed to live up to their reputation as tough hosts.
GROUP F – Athens 2004 quarterfinalists Korea Republic struggled to beat Yemen 1-0 at the Suwon World Cup Stadium. Yang Dong-hyon’s 64th minute goal saw Pim Verbeek’s side post a narrow win.
“They are not an easy team to beat. We should have scored early in the first half,” said Verbeek.
“I am fully aware that our players worked hard and played hard, but we didn’t have enough time for players to understand and communicate with each other. That’s why we didn’t have many critical passes in the penalty area.”
Uzbekistan scraped past UAE 2-1 at the Pakhtakor Stadium in the other group game which was played in sub-zero temperatures. Nodir Kuzibaev fired the Uzbeks into the lead in the 16th minute before Nasser Khamis drew level for UAE in the 38th minute. However, Marat Bikmaev hit what proved to be the winning goal in the 42nd minute.

巴林主場以8比0狂勝巴基斯坦，上半場以4比0奠定勝基。巴林的建功球員是阿爾達吉爾（第20和24分鐘）、埃德（第34分鐘）、阿都拉蒂夫（第42分鐘）、巴巴頓多（第53和89分鐘）、約翰（第74分鐘）和艾斯（第86分鐘）。
科威特憑藉阿爾埃納茲在第83分鐘的進球，以2比2逼平東道主卡塔爾。薩迪克在第50分鐘為卡塔爾先拔頭籌，拉米在第64分鐘擴大比分優勢。米塞雷在第70分鐘先為卡塔爾扳回一城，阿爾埃納茲在最後關頭扮演英雄角色。

Japan, Korea Republic and Saudi Arabia record wins in Olympic second round qualifying

KUALA LUMPUR: Japan and Korea Republic stayed perfect while top-seeds Iraq were held by DPR Korea on Match Day 2 of the second round qualifying for the Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008 on Wednesday.
GROUP A
Kuwait’s Hamad Al Enazi pumped in three goals as they beat Bahrain 3-0 at the Friendship and Peace Stadium in Kuwait City to climb to the top of this group ahead of Qatar.
Al Enazi opened the scoring for Kuwait in the 10th minute and netted his brace in the79th minute before wrapping up the big win with a stoppage time strike.
Qatar travelled to Pakistan and needed late goals from Waleed Jassim (73 penalty) and Adel Lami (90 + 2) for a nervous win at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad.
Though both Kuwait and Qatar are tied on four points, the Kuwaitis are leading this group on superior goals record.
STANDINGS: 1. Kuwait 4, 2. Qatar 4, 3. Bahrain 3, 4. Pakistan 0
GROUP B
Japan beat Malaysia 2-1 at the MPPJ Stadium in Kuala Lumpur to tie with Syria atop the standings on six points. This was Japan’s second win after their first round 3-0 whipping of Hong Kong.
Sota Hirayama scored the first goal for Yasuharu Sorimachi’s side after 13 minutes and Tadanari Lee made it 2-0 in the 77th minute. Khyril Muhymeen pulled a goal back for Malaysia in the 81st minute.
Syria notched up their second straight win in this group with a 2-0 defeat of hosts Hong Kong at the Hong Kong National Stadium. Majed Al Haj opened the scoring late on 74 minutes before Mahmoud Khadoj sealed the win with his 80th minute strike.
Syria next host Japan in the battle of undefeated teams.
STANDINGS: 1. Japan 6, Syria 6, 3. Malaysia 0, 4. Hong Kong 0
GROUP C
Vietnamese star striker Cong Vinh scored late in the 76th minute as they beat archrivals Indonesia 1-0 for their second straight win at the Mattoangin Stadium in Makassar.
The goal arrived after a counter-attack in which midfielder Vu Phong crossed to Vinh who beat a defender to slot the ball home. Vietnam had defeated Lebanon 2-0 in their first game.
In the other match, Lebanon had to bank on a late 83rd minute goal by Hamza Salem to edge Oman at the Municipal Stadium in Beirut.
Vietnam are leading with six points followed by Oman and Lebanon on three points each.
STANDINGS: 1. Vietnam 6, 2. Oman 3, Lebanon 3, Indonesia 0
GROUP D
Saudi Arabia imposed their control on this group with a narrow 1-0 win over Iran at the Prince Mohamed Stadium in Dammam in a thrilling encounter.
The first half ended goalless and both teams seemed destined for a draw when Al Qadsiya striker Yousif Al Salem fired the decider seven minutes from time.
In the second group game, Australia were denied a win by a remarkable long-range goal four minutes from full time against Jordan at the Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide.
Midfielder Ahmad Alzugheir struck a blistering 30-metre equalizer to cancel out Kristian Sarkies 58th minute goal and ensure the match finished 1-1.
The result left Australia on two points following their opening round scoreless draw against Iran in Tehran a fortnight ago.
STANDINGS: 1. Saudi Arabia 6, 2. Australia 2, 3. Jordan 1, 4. Iran 1
GROUP E
Asian top-seeds Iraq edged to the top of this group with a hardfought 2-2 draw against DPR Korea at the Kim Il Sung Stadium in Pyongyang.
Ala’a Abdul Zahra put Iraq ahead in the 17th minute but DPR Korea equalled on the stroke of half time.
DPR Korea inched ahead five minutes after the hour but Ali Hussein ensured a share of the points for the Iraqis with a cleanly-slotted penalty in injury time.
At the Nehru Stadium in Chenna, Thai star Teeratep Winothai scored the only goal of the match against hosts India in the ninth minute. The win saw Thailand bounce back from their 1-0 home defeat to DPR Korea on Match Day 1.
STANDINGS: 1. Iraq 4, 2. DPR Korea 4, 3. Thailand 3, 4. India 0
GROUP F
Korea Republic, who struggled to beat Yemen 1-0 in their first game, came into their own against UAE to run out 3-1 winners at the Al Wahda Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Han Dong-wan fired Pim Verbeek’s men into the lead in the 21st minute and Lee Seung-hyun cemented the advantage in the 38th minute. Adel Saqr managed to pull one back five minutes after the break but Han grabbed his brace ended the hosts’ fightback hopes with his 83rd minute goal.
In the other game, Uzbekistan had Aziz Haydarov to thank after the 21-year-old Lokomotiv Tashkent striker fired the solitary goal of the match against tough opponents Yemen at the Al Thawra Stadium in Sana. Haydarov’s 45th minute goal proved to be the difference between the two sides.
STANDINGS: 1. Korea Republic 6, 2. Uzbekistan 6, 3. Yemen 0, 4. UAE 0
The top two teams from the six groups will progress to the third and final stage of qualifying, where 12 nations will be split into three groups.
The third stage will be held from August 22 - November 21, with only the three group winners representing Asia at the Beijing Olympic Games.
MATCH DAY 3 ON MARCH 28, 2007
2008北京奧運會亞洲區足球預選賽小組賽：日本、韓國、沙特再勝一輪
2007年3月15日
（吉隆坡）周三晚進行的2008北京奧運會亞洲區足球預選賽第二輪小組賽中，日本、韓國、沙特分別戰勝對手，在第二比賽日中全取3分。
科威特在A組的比賽中3比0大勝巴林，卡塔爾也以2比0在客場伊斯蘭堡擊敗巴基斯坦。日本在B組的比賽中在客場2比1擊敗馬來西亞，平山相太在上半場13分鍾為日本首開紀錄，李忠成在77分鍾將場上比分改寫為2比0，馬來西亞在81分鍾由瑪希蒙扳回1球，最終以1比2落敗日本。
B組的另外一場敘利亞與香港的比賽中，東道主香港在主場0比2落敗，在客場全取3分。
C組的越南在主場1比0小勝近鄰印度尼西亞，在首場比賽2比0擊敗黎巴嫩之後再獲勝利，阿曼也在本輪大吃敗仗，以0比1不敵黎巴嫩結束了自己第二輪的2008奧運會預選賽。
沙特在D組的比賽中取得了關鍵一役的勝利，主場1比0力克勁敵伊朗，來自於阿爾卡德西亞的阿爾薩勒姆在83分鍾攻入這粒制勝球。同組的澳大利亞1比1戰平約旦，在主場僅拿到1分。
亞洲區種子隊伊拉克在客場遭遇到朝鮮的強力阻擊，最終雙方平分秋色，以2比2握手言和，同組的泰國也在E組第二回合客場對陣印度的比賽中以1比0擊敗對手，取得3分。
F組的比賽以韓國3比1勝出阿聯酋和烏茲別克斯坦1比0擊敗也門結束，最終誰能從小組中脫穎而出還不得而知。
按照本屆預選賽的規定，這6個小組的前2名有機會晉級第3階段的小組賽爭奪和最後的淘汰賽，屆時，這12支隊伍將被分成3組進行作對廝殺，比賽時間為2007年8月22日至11月21日，每個小組的頭名將代表亞洲參加2008北京奧運會足球賽。
現小組賽第三比賽日為2007年3月28日，其排名積分入選：
