DEFENDER Adam Drury has been named as the Canaries' team captain for the forthcoming season.
Drury, 27, was skipper the season Norwich won promotion to the Premiership, with the former Peterborough man this time supported by Gary Doherty, who has been named team vice captain.
Fellow defender Craig Fleming, 34, remains as Club Captain during his testimonial season.
Last season the captain's armband was passed around a number of players, with no single person able to claim the responsibility as their own.
And City boss Nigel Worthington said he and his staff had given the decision plenty of thought before deciding to give Drury the honour.
Speaking to CanariesWorld, he said: "We've thought long and hard about the decision. We spoke to Adam and he was confident and comfortable in having the armband.
"He is positive it wont take anything away from his performances and that is very important."
Arguably one of the less vocal members of the Norwich squad, Worthington said Drury's relative quietness would not affect his role as skipper.
LEADERSHIP: Gary Doherty will be the Canaries' vice captain this season
"He leads by example and you don't always need a vocal person to have the armband," said Worthington, stressing that every player was encouraged to make their voices heard on the pitch.
"Anybody can be a skipper out there for us - the more the better."
Drury's previous successful stint as team captain came to an end midway through the Canaries Premiership season when a loss of form saw the left-back dropped from the team.
And Drury felt his added experience would benefit him this time round.
"When I was put forward to be captain it was a great honour," he said. "It's not something you turn down. I'm now a bit older and a bit wiser too."
And Drury believed having the armband would not affect his performances for the Canaries.
"You still go out and try to play your own game," he said. "But you do try and talk to the lads a bit more when you're out there."
Both Drury and Worthington were speaking at Norwich Airport on Monday night as the team prepared to depart for their pre-season tour of Scotland.
The Canaries face Falkirk on Tuesday night before visiting Livingston on Saturday as City step up a gear in their preparations following comfortable victories over non-league Fakenham and Conference side Cambridge United.
The Scottish sides are slightly ahead of the Canaries in their preparations due to the earlier start of their league season, and Worthy thought it would be a good test for his players.
"We've got nice warm weather and hopefully the training facilities will be good and rest assured there will be two good games for us," he said.
