"open"係度係一個adj, 唔係verb

to be more appropriate,

"is opened" (a verb)  in this sentence means "start up",

"open" (an adjective) means the status of restaurant is open, and hence 營業中 ...

sorry, 我講得唔清楚 ... mislead 咗你 ....

依你既意思, 你句句子既 "opened" 唔應該係 past tense 既 "verb", 而應該係 adjective  "open", 正如我之前所講, open 指 "在營業中" 既意思 ....

如果一定要用 verb 既話, open 個意思會變左 "start up" , 由於restaurant 只可被 "start up by someone", 所以唔會用 active voice....

e.g. This restaurant opens on Sundays 這餐廳會在星期日營業
但你所講的都有道理, 但如果要解"start up" 咁就唔係用"open",而係用phrasal verb "open up",呢個時候就如你所講,一定要用passive voice
e.g.Restaurant was opened up by him. 餐廳是由佢開辦的.

Well … strictly speaking, your example is grammatically incorrect.

I’ve checked in the dictionary.com and if “open” is used as an intransitive verb (as your example), it can only means “start” in this case, and it won’t carry the meaning of “ready for or carrying on normal trade or business”. When we use “open” as a transitive verb, it can means “to establish for business purposes or for public use”, for example, someone opens a restaurant. Therefore, when the subject is changed to “restaurant”, the sentence should be in passive voice.

Therefore, go to the very back, to re-write it as “the restaurant is open on Sundays” is the most appropriate. Maybe your example is written in Americans as US people didn’t care much about grammar ba ….

Of course, you are right that the phrasal verb “opened up” can be used for “start up”.

我都查過dictionary, 我查Oxford Advanced, 佢就話當"open"係intransitive verb 時,其中一個meaning 係" be ready for business, admit users or visitors", 所以我會有以上理解
如果我自己,我一定係用"the restaurant is open on sundays", 所以以上case , "open"係 adj 就一定岩
