A mystery Premiership club are thought to be chasing Tore Andre Flo after Newcastle ruled themselves out of the running for the Norwegian.
Flo is considering a move away from Siena with his contract expiring next month.
The former Chelsea and Sunderland star is believed to be keen on a return to England with Queens Park Rangers admitting they were lining up an audacious swoop for the skilful striker.
Greek giants Olympiakos have also been linked with the Norwegian international and reports from Greece suggested they faced competition from Newcastle for his signature.
However, Newcastle have moved quickly to rubbish the rumours insisting they have no interest in Flo.
"I don't know where that story came from, but there is no truth in it whatsoever," Magpies boss Graeme Souness told the club's official website.
"This is a big football club and there is always going to be speculation and rumour."
Flo is thought to favour a move back to England as he still owns a property in the capital and an unknown Premiership club from the south have joined the chase for his signature.
The player's agent Martin Kjenner admitted that a mystery London club had come in for Flo and that Queens Park Rangers were seriously interested in the player
"There is another club not far from London who is also in consideration and we are not excluding an extension with Siena," Kjenner told VG.
"They (QPR) have come in the picture and it appears to be very serious.
"The question is where the family wants to stay. Tore Andre has got serious offers from clubs in several countries."
