'I'm staying at Arsenal for life', insists Henry

Injured Arsenal captain Thierry Henry has insisted he will stay with the club 'for life'.

Henry was ruled out for the rest of the season after he aggravated groin and stomach muscle injuries in the Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven and it had been suggested he could have played his last game for the Gunners.

But the French striker has dismissed those reports and pledged himself to Arsenal for the remainder of his career.

He told The Sun: 'People in France and some over here (England) are still saying I am going to leave.

'I am not going to leave. Never. I am staying here for life.

'I have no intention of walking out on this club, whatever the situation is. At no stage this season have I ever thought about leaving. I love the club, I love the fans and I am 100% behind the boss.'

Henry also revealed that he believes his injury problems - and the dip in form experienced by other top players in the aftermath last summer's World Cup - is down to too much football.

'This injury isn't down to my age. It's the number of games played that causes injury. Look at (Franck) Ribery, (Claude) Makelele, (William) Gallas, (Patrick) Viera, they are all injured.

'Even Ronaldinho is dead. Same for Deco. Or (Steven) Gerrard. This is not the great and the real Gerrard (this season). The players doing well now are those who played less last season.'

Manchester City footballer Joey Barton has been arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.

The controversial midfielder was questioned by police over an alleged argument with a taxi driver in Liverpool.

It is understood the incident took place in the Wavertree area of the city earlier this month.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "I can confirm a 24-year-old man, from Widnes, was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and assault.

"He has been bailed until May pending further inquiries."

The 24-year-old is no stranger to controversy. In February, Portsmouth fans complained after he allegedly made an obscene gesture towards them during a match at Fratton Park.

He was fined £2,000 by the FA after dropping his shorts and baring his bottom at Everton fans in October.

Barton was sent home from a pre-season tour of Thailand after becoming involved in a brawl with a schoolboy Everton fan.

He was also fined six weeks' wages by his own club after stubbing a cigar out in the eye of young City team-mate Jamie Tandy at a club Christmas party.

Dong joins senior squad

United's recent injury concerns have prompted Sir Alex Ferguson to promote Chinese striker Dong Fangzhuo to the first-team squad.

The 22-year-old has already been involved in a couple of Reserve games having finally completed his move to Old Trafford after spending two years on loan at Royal Antwerp.

Injuries to Louis Saha (hamstring) and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (knee), along with the departure of Henrik Larsson mean the Reds are rather light up front.

With a busy period of matches coming up, Sir Alex has opted to call the forward up to the senior squad.

"Dong will be coming into the squad," confirmed Sir Alex. "He has needed a lot of hard work and we've been doing that.

"He's got some terrific attributes. He's lightening quick and has a marvellous physique. He's a very athletic boy. So he'll be added to the pool."
