According to reports in Italy, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso. The 29-year-old was recently linked with a move to Liverpool amid reports Rafa Benitez would offer the Argentine in part exchange for Javier Mascherano, and now it appears Ferguson wants to bring the former Real Madrid star to Old Trafford as well.
Manchester United still have concerns over the fitness of Owen Hargreaves despite news claiming the 29-year-old is expected to play a full part in the Red Devils’ pre-season programme, and the Italian media suggest Sir Alex Ferguson is considering entering the race for Cambiasso in an effort to shore up his midfield. Inter Milan’s protracted efforts to lure Javier Mascherano away from Anfield appear unlikely, given Liverpool’s £30 million valuation, but Cambiasso is believed to be unsure of his San Siro future under new boss Rafa Benitez.
Cambiasso was instrumental in Inter Milan’s unprecedented season last year, helping the club win the treble and most notably the Champions League, but despite the 29-year-old’s performances at the heart of Jose Mourinho’s midfield, the player was overlooked by Diego Maradona for Argentina’s World Cup squad. Despite paying no part in South Africa, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge admirer of the tough-tackling holding player and reports in Spain intimate that the Old Trafford supremo is considering a €15 million bid for the alleged Liverpool target.
Sir Alex Ferguson already has Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Anderson, and Owen Hargreaves at his disposal in Manchester United’s engine room, but with concerns remaining over Hargreaves and rumours purporting of interest in both Carrick and Anderson, Ferguson could look t Cambiasso as superb alternative to the aforementioned.
