SUAREZ REVEALS MAN UTD TEMPTATION

Uruguay World Cup star Luis Suarez admits he could be tempted to leave Ajax if Manchester United come calling.

The 23-year-old striker, who was sent off in the last minute of Uruguay's quarter-final encounter against Ghana for handball on the goalline, scored an impressive 49 goals in 48 games for the Dutch club last season.

But despite being happy at Ajax, Suarez says an offer from a high-profile club such as United could sway him towards a move.

"Manchester United and Barcelona are the elite clubs in Europe," Suarez told the Daily Star Sunday.

"If they call, you listen. I would only leave Ajax for a team in that category."

Manchester United are rumoured to be lining up a double Bundesliga swoop as Sir Alex Ferguson prepares bids for Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer and Werder Bremen playmaker Mesut Ozil this summer. Reports in Germany believe the Old Trafford boss is looking to capture both national team heroes once the World Cup comes to a close and is set to offer in the region of ￡32m for the pair.

Ferguson has been searching for an adequate replacement for veteran keeper Edwin Van der Sar and has been linked with a myriad of potential targets with 24 year old Neuer looking like an ideal acquisition. After four seasons as the first choice keeper at Gelsenkirchen based club he may well be keen on a new challenge having seen his side come painfully close to ending a 52 year wait for a domestic title end in heartache last term.

Mesut Ozil has arguably been one of the brightest performers of the World Cup thus far, helping Joachim Low’s side get to the semi-finals thanks to some inspired displays that have made the Werder Bremen attacking midfielder a target for Europe’s elite.

Both Germans were stars of the successful European Under 21 Championship team that beat England 4-0 to lift the trophy and provide the back bone of the current senior side. It would seem likely that both youngsters would jump at the chance of a move to the Premier League side, so if Ferguson can get the funds together to make a bid for the duo then it would seem a definite possibility that a deal could be struck.

Mesut Ozil open to Premier League Offers – “The World Cup is all that matters at the moment,” he told the Sun. “When I get back we can think about my future, but for now it’s not something I want to give a lot of thought to. To the top players, the Premier League is attractive.

“You look at what Manchester United and Chelsea have achieved over the last five years and you see it would be easy to be successful at two clubs like that. I see what Michael Ballack achieved at Chelsea and the quality of players he played with and the temptation becomes obvious.” (ESPN)

Previous Man United interest in Neuer – Manchester United eye Manuel Neuer as long-term replacement for Edwin van der Sar.

Manchester United are ready to move in for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill as manager Sir Alex Ferguson continues his rebuilding plan for the squad’s future.

Concerned over defender and captain Rio Ferdinand’s increasing injury problems and lack of form, Ferguson is understood to have earmarked Cahill as the England captain’s natural successor in the centre of defence.

While the United supremo does not expect Ferdinand to leave the sport just yet, he is desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements to not only replace his best defender, but also as a possible immediate first team player due to Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic’s desire to leave the club this summer.

To this end, Ferguson has asked the club to put up a ￡15 million bid for Cahill and hopes to tempt the 24-year-old to Old Trafford to play for a higher profile club, which could also further strengthen his own claims for an England call-up under Fabio Capello’s rebuilding plans for the Three Lions.

Cahill suffered international disappointment last season after failing in his own fitness fight due to a blood clot in his arm, which saw him miss enough playing time to be dropped from Capello’s consideration for the England World Cup squad.

But his sterling displays in the centre of defence for unfancied Bolton has caught the eye of many admirers, not least that of Ferguson who is also under pressure from United supporters to make a major signing this summer. The defender is also understood to be keen on a move to a bigger club and does not want to be embroiled in another relegation battle next season with the Trotters.

While Cahill would not necessarily be considered a star in the making, the defender’s composure on the ball as well as fierce tackling would sit well next to, or in place, of Ferdinand. Should the latter continue to breakdown from a chronic back injury, and having to miss part of United’s start of the new season due to the knee injury suffered prior to the World Cup finals, Ferguson would have an immediate substitute in Cahill.
