Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King's World Cup appears to be worse than initially feared, following the groin injury he sustained in England's opening draw against the USA on Saturday.
The centre-back was replaced at half-time by Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher after complaining of feeling a tightness in the muscle.
Three Lions medical staff originally hoped that the problem was not severe enough to keep the player out of more than the next game against Algeria.
However, it now appears that that prognosis has changed and it looks as though the muscle tear will keep King out of the group stages, as he continues to be assessed on a day-to-day basis.
After Rio Ferdinand's premature exit from the squad with a knee injury, Capello is now left with Carragher, Michael Dawson and Matthew Upson as possible partners for John Terry at the heart of the England defence.
"We have those three defenders," Capello said.
"I hope we will not have any more injuries."
The FA are expected to issue an update concerning King's injury.
